# Joining LexDAO **Short Story:** *Contribute.* Make a direct contribution by proposal with tribute. Above all, *Contribute.* ## Background LexDAO is a club among lawyers and coders building next generation contracts using distributed ledgers like Ethereum. We operate as an unincorporated non-profit association through the [Wyoming UNA law](https://law.justia.com/codes/wyoming/2010/Title17/chapter22.html). A copy of our constitution can be reviewed [here](https://github.com/lexDAO/LexDAO-Constitution). ## Mission LexDAO was formed to build public legal goods and provide education to attorneys on web3 development. We further summarize information for web3 developers who have legal needs and make referrals among our membership as well as provide consultations. ## Operations LexDAO operates through a ["DAO" smart contract](https://app.daohaus.club/dao/0x64/0x58234d4bf7a83693dc0815d97189ed7d188f6981) as a cooperative, meaning everyone has equal votes (currently 10 each), and coordinate through chat rooms, like our [discord](lexdao.chat). The simplest way to join LexDAO is to show up to our weekly legal and coding call in discord, every Friday, at 12 pm ET. We also have bi-weekly governance and onboarding calls on Wednesdays at 12 pm ET. ![](https://i.imgur.com/NZInvPZ.png) ## Contributing At all LexDAO calls, we discuss current needs and projects for contributors. If you help out, you might get sponsored to join the DAO. Largely, our focus is to open source legal tools for web3 founders and [develop smart contracts](https://github.com/lexDAO/LexCorpus) that serve both our and public business needs. LexDAO also governs a guild bank to support our work and members. Making a contribution of 300 wxDAI is recommended in order to get sponsorship and signal support. We are always happy to sponsor law students and others who might not have technical or other means, and recommend discussing your ideas to contribute in our chats. ## Making a Proposal To make a direct contribution to the guild and request immediate sponsorship, visit our DAO application [here](https://app.daohaus.club/dao/0x64/0x58234d4bf7a83693dc0815d97189ed7d188f6981/proposals). (Alternatively, if on mainnet, 300 DAI can be sent to our multi-sig: `0x5B620676E28693fC14876b035b08CbB1B657dF38`). In order to make such a proposal, you will need to use the xDAI sidechain, which is designed to reduce the costs of operating LexDAO membership. It also simplifies things a bit by making all transactions more predictably priced, as DAI is pegged to the US dollar. You can bridge your DAI tokens and other assets [here](https://dai-bridge.poa.network/). Learn more about using xDAI in these [docs](https://www.xdaichain.com/). ![](https://i.imgur.com/b2vcMbs.png) ![](https://i.imgur.com/Id4zrHn.png) After bridging your assets, you may need to "wrap" your xDAI into tokens in order to complete a proposal deposit. A wrapping tool is available [here](https://wrapeth.com/) developed by our friends at Raid Guild. This will wrap your xDAI into wxDAI tokens. You can always cancel your proposal and claim back your deposit unless sponsored. If you are sponsored and accepted into the guild, you can also "ragequit" your club shares in LexDAO at any time and claim back your deposit. Finally, we have also designed a smart contract to streamline the proposal process, which can be reviewed [here](https://blockscout.com/xdai/mainnet/address/0x985b201089AC678Ee777d5E3734c0cA94e6C5fa4/contracts). If you send 300 xDAI to this address `0x985b201089AC678Ee777d5E3734c0cA94e6C5fa4` it will wrap your xDAI and make a proposal with our preferred formatting. We are currently rebuilding our website to make all of the above more streamlined and user friendly.
