# bit2 (🟠, (❷)

Bitcoin layer two that uses wBTC as gas token.

## why

*Nobody knows what they are doing.*

If they act like they do, they are likely still making it up as they go. Why is it that suddenly in the bull market "the layer two on bitcoin tech work so good"?

There is also a palpable amount of grift and handwaving on this topic. It feels within the bounds of the culture to build this in public and raise zero money. But do a DAO.

## why wBTC

Blockchains are social consensus, ultimately. wBTC is the most liquid smart contract representation of BTC. So far it has "just worked". For something as complicated as a BTCL2, it makes sense. Plus it is fairly easy to obtain wBTC for gas. Zero switching costs for Ethereum people to utilize BTC as slashable collateral for fast contracts.

[Conduit.xyz](conduit.xyz/) infrastructure. Why make this hard. Sepolia staging to prove it works and maybe that will end up just being how this works long-term.

A very simple mintable/burnable/ownable ERC20. 18 decimals for Conduit-compatibility.

`note: we might either employ a wrapper contract for 8-decimal wBTC or establish a consensus that "bridging into WBTC2" automates this conversion. The latter makes most sense, to me.`

## next steps

✅ Ensure bit2 actually works with WBTC2 as gas.
