# ModFest | Spooky Fest
Spooky Fest is a miniature ModFest centered around the month of October and Halloween.
Unlike the previous Fests, Spooky Fest has the display theme of a fall/Halloween festival! Players can participate in fun minigames, events, and battles, while finding collectables, hanging out, and getting lost in mazes.

### Submission Themes
For mods to be included in Spooky Fest, they must fit one of the following themes or criteria. We ask that you stick close to these topics (unlike previous Fests, where anything was fair game):
1. Fall (the Season)
2. Halloween
3. server-utilities, such as utilities for boss arenas, modifiable spawners, mechanics for mazes, server welcome messages, etc.
### Event Timing
Mod creation takes place from October 1st (Thusrday) to October 15th. We ask that you have your final submission in by the 15th, but you are free to send in submissions earlier than that. After finishing your mod, we would love your help on the festivities: build a maze, showcase your mod, create a boss arena for your pumpkin overlord, or hide a few secrets around the map!
Server construction, such as map building, mod organizing, and content integration, will start on the 10th, and will end on the 20th.
Once server construction has finished, the server will be open for the last 10 days of October, and closed when Halloween ends.
### Hacktoberfest
You know what *else* is just around the corner? Hacktoberfest! Send in a number of PRs to GitHub in the month of October, and get a cool T-Shirt and stickers.
We encourage mod developers to post feature requests and issues to the #hacktoberfest-issues channel. Other developers and users can contribute to the project by solving those feature and issue requests, which will count towards their PR count.

### Submission Rules
1. No mods that drastically alter core gameplay. Do not modify any essential game mechanics in a way that makes them harder or annoying to use (no backwards controls, funny crashes, upside down menus, chat-based nausea, inverse terrain generation, or other things in the same category).
2. Nothing offensive or harrasive. This should go without saying: if it makes fun of someone, is deemed offensive by the council, or crashes when somebody with a certain UUID joins the game, it is out.
3. Must run on 1.16.2 with the Fabric Loader.
4. At least 1 member from any given project must be in the ModFest Discord so we can contact you regarding crashes and incompatibilities.
5. As with previous ModFests, pre-created libraries, assets, and code can be used, <ins>as long as it was not created for this event</ins>.
6. For the sake of making the organizers' jobs easier as we develop the ModFest platform, please include a schema for automatically updating your mod through [ModUpdater](https://gitea.thebrokenrail.com/TheBrokenRail/ModUpdater/src/branch/master/MOD_DEVELOPER.md).
### Mod Ideas
*"What kind of mod should I make,"* you ask? Here are a few simple ideas to get you started:
- Add orange & red hues to trees in the Fall
- Tech/magic mod centered around little ghost that float around doing your bidding
- Pumpkin carving! After you finish, you can wear your Carved Pumpkin to show it off.
- Biome mod that adds themed biomes like *Pumpkin Plains*, *Ghostly Graveyard*, and *Autumn Forest*
- Add a large number of Pumpkin-themed food options such as flavored Pumpkin Pie, Baked Pumpkin Seeds, Pumpkin-flavored candy, and Pumpkin Waffles
- Add in Halloween/Fall themed bosses, such as the *Soul Reaper*, *Pumpkin King*, and *Ghastly Lich*
- Replace the main menu panorama with a Halloween/Fall themed alternative.
- Add in Halloween-themed music in the Minecraft style that will play on certain nights
- Something related to Trick-or-Treating
- Spiders are Halloween related, right? What about a mod that adds in a giant Spider boss in a web-infested cave deep in the ground?
- Mechanic/system that allows you to construct a maze (think: Corn Maze) and reward players for finishing it
