# Season 1 - Episode 2

## scene 2: 飛機上
> B: I wanna be a beach boy....., sit around smoking the vibes.

Bill和Holden在爭執要不要去見Manson，Bill覺得如果Holden有其它要求就好了XD
像是當個海灘男孩學衝浪，坐著抽麻(?)

其實我不知道`smoke vibes`是什麼意思，但`vibe`是說一個人的感覺、氛圍，`good vibes`有一種chill的感覺～～～

> B: Just Swing by and say hi.

Bill說Holden如果這麼想去見Manson的話，繞去打個招呼就可以了。
`swing by`短暫的見面。

> B: When are you gonna find time for these fireside chat?

Bill問Holden哪來時間去訪問Manson。

`fireside chat` 爐邊談話，是美國羅斯福總統的晚間廣播演說名稱。
不知道這裡用這個詞有沒有其他含義？

## scene 4: 演講廳
> The Cop: He's a total whack job.

Holden問了旁邊的人是不是可以幫他安排訪問Manson的事情，結果旁邊的推薦他去訪問Ed，順便簡單的介紹這人的資訊。

`whack job`腦子有問題的人。

## scene 5: Bar

> The Cop: Guys like him always want to be in uniform.

`in uniform` 這裡指的是當警察，因為發話者是警察。

> The Cop: “They always got a raw deal.”

`a raw deal` 不好的待遇

> The Cop: I thought I hit the jackpot.

`hit the jackpot` 中頭獎
當初逮捕Ed的警察在車上聽Ed講一堆犯案手法，他覺得自己抓到大魚中頭獎了。

> B: Who's "us", kemosabe?

`kemosabe` 朋友的意思，源自於《獨行俠》裡的Tonto。

## scene 6: 飯店房間

> B: You gotta take him by suprise.

Bill在Holden出發去找Ed聊聊之前給Holden的建議：要去就不要先讓Ed知道，讓他措手不及。

`take sb. by surprise` 使某人措手不及

## scene 9: 探監處
> Guard: OK, you are all set.

獄警把Ed帶來的時候，Holden請他把Ed的手銬解開，這樣比較自在。
獄警解開手銬後對Ed說

`you are all set`是指你準備好了，譬如教練認為你做好準備要上場了，或是遊樂園的工作人員確認過你的安全帶繫妥了。

> H: Sure thing.

"OK", "you're welcome" 的輕鬆說法。

> E: I think it's shutting the barn door after horse has bolted.

Holden問Ed監獄是否有幫助到他，Ed覺得沒什麼用。
`shut the barn door after the horse has bolted` 亡羊補牢

> E: Well, isn't that your department?

Holden問Ed該如何處理像Ed這樣的人，如果不動手術的話。
Ed反問Holden：這不是你的專業嗎？

`one's department`可以表示為某個人的專業

> E: An unusual MO.

Ed幫Holden接話，說自己擁有特別的犯罪動機(Neflix譯）。
但`M.O.`指的是modus operandi，犯罪手法。

> E: An oeuvre, if you will.

`oeuvre`是藝術品，藝術家的藝術品。
`if you will` 如果你願意這樣說的話

oeuvre看起來很不好唸也不好拼音，感覺是一個從法國來的字XD
Ed還問Holden會不會拼，我是絕對拼不出來...

We just clicked right off the bat.
`right off the bat` 立刻、馬上、在一開始。
所以是一見鐘情？

## scene 10: 車子上

> B: He's Stanley Kubrick?

`Stanley Kubrick`是一個很有名的導演。
但不知道有沒有什麼相關聯，不然名導應該有很多～

> B: ... just like he did with the shrinks in the institution.

`shrink`是`psychiatrist`的別稱。
好像是因為一個縮腦手術？

## scene 12: 餐廳

> H: We should put him on the payroll.

Holden跟Debbie分享他去訪問Ed的過程，他覺得Ed厲害到FBI應該要雇用Ed。
`put on the payroll`雇用，`payroll`是薪資單。

> D: You got mention-itis.

Holden不斷提及Ed，連egg sandwitch都可以講成ed sandwitch。
Debbie就說他得了“提到炎”。

`methtionitis`提到炎XD
`-itis`是一些炎症名稱會使用的尾字。延伸用在表示某些傾向、心理狀態像發病了一樣。

> D: How do you wrap your mind around that?

Debbie得知Ed以殺人為職業感到不可思議，反問Ed要怎麼接受、理解這種鬼話。
`wrap one's mind around`找到方法理解、接受某人的想法。

## scene 13: 探監處

> H: I am squeaky clean. I'm Eliot Ness.
> E: You're Melvin Purvis, G-MAN.

`squeaky clean`乾淨，比喻人正直清廉。
`Eliot Ness`, `Melvin Purvis`都是執法人員，不過做了什麼事我就不想細查了。
`G-MAN` 美國政府的人，特別指FBI。

> H: I am Warren fucking Beatty.

`Warren Beatty`是一個帥氣的美國演員。

> E: Gas, grass, or ass. Nobody rides for free.

1970年代衍伸出來的俗語。Hitchikers要馬回饋車主油、要馬草(大麻)要馬屁股(性)。
大概意味著，某件事是要有代價的，Ed認為要能受一堆女生倒貼得要有什麼才行，附和Holden說女生真的喜歡有警徽的人。

## scene 14: 車上

> B: Did he say that?
> H: As good as.
> B: It's schtick.

Holden跟Bill說Ed之所以殺掉媽媽不是因為被激怒了，而是因為他受約制。
Bill覺得他只是在玩把戲而已，不是真的。

`as good as` 幾乎、差不多。
`schtick`阿什肯納茲猶太人的語言，之前用來指喜劇的套路。這裡是說把戲。

> B: He's got you pegged.

Bill一直覺得Ed是能言善道，很會偽裝、見人說人話，見鬼說鬼話的人，所以他說Ed摸透Holden是什麼樣的人了。畢竟Holden也是先講了一些他的故事。

`has got sb. pegged` 知道某人是怎麼樣的人

> He tailored his bullshit to fit.

`tailor` 裁製、量身訂做

量身訂做的屁話...XD

## 中間是一連串場景變換的剪輯，合做一個場景

## scene 17: 警察Roy的辦公桌前

> R:We find her beaten within an inch of her life.

Roy為一個奇怪的案件做簡短說明，有個老太太差點被打死。

`within an inch of one's life` 差點讓某人死亡

## scene 20: 老太太家

> Dios mío.

西文的"My god."

## scene 21: 餐廳

> He knifes the dog because the dog was yapping it's head off.

Holden在對嫌疑犯做心理側寫，說犯人可能是因為狗狗狂吠而殺了牠。
`one's head off`

## scene 22: 車上
> H: You could really smoke him out.

Bill和Holden都因為買不到機票，所以註定要被卡在 一整個週末。Holden提議Bill一起去見Ed，Bill應該有機會讓他說出什麼。

`smoke sb. out`把人逼出藏著自己的地方。

## scene 23: 監獄
> E: I sure would love to pick your brain sometime.
> B: Well, that's another life sentence right there.

`pick one's brain`問某人而獲取資訊。

這裡有趣的是如果直接翻字面上的意思，聽起來是滿恐怖的...
又是Ed講出來的話(汗)

所以Bill逗趣的說那麼做的話會得到一個無期徒刑。
`life sentence`無期徒刑

> Ed: She got soused.

`soused` 喝醉的

這一段Ed在闡述案發當晚他與媽媽的互動是壓倒駱駝的最後一根稻草，讓Ed犯罪。聽起來超級恐怖的...

## scene 28: 飛機上
> We'll be drowned in red tape.

`red tape` 公家機關的繁冗程序與規定。
被淹沒在這些事情裡面～

這集**最重點**。
果然Bill比較會講話，直接切到重點扭轉局長對訪問殺人犯的看法。
