# YFI Governance
*Call Notes • 29 Oct 2020*
## Notes
- Daniel's Proposal: [Governance in Yearn](https://hackmd.io/@lehnberg/SyJ5yWD_P)
- presentation, discussion, and debate
- Scopes to define
- What does YFI actually govern?
- Specific powers of each kind of actor or group
- Strategies
- how are they approved
- value proposition for strategists
- changing this is up to YFI holders
- Gov can't manage everything
- how to best assign people to specific tasks
- Questions
- what does it mean when something has been added tot he yearn protocol?
- what are the membranes to spec out?
- who can make what decisions and how?
- Decisions & Governance Now
- many made in private groups which is fine and the normal way people work, but needs better process transparency
- YIPs etc
- snapshot currently doesn't have ability to execute approved proposals, but what do we actually need that for? do we want to be like Compound?
- auto-execution requires much more formal proposals
- there are some types of decisions that would benefit from this kind of high-overhead governance, others that wouldn't
- How to limit some kinds of decisions, eg delegation
- Is our current system working?
- yes, in many ways
- but is it legitimate? can YFI holders complain? what is YFI for -- need satisfactory answer.
- does it leverage as much community intelligence as it could?
- delegation
- uniswap and compount is more like proxy voting
- it could be like a board of directors setting strategy and delegating to an executive team
- DAO-ify approach
- problem: people are disconnected, some out of the loop others in the loop
- what is value of YFI holder intelligence
- dont need to even be a YFI holder to suggest a strategy in the forum
## TO DOs (assigned to)
- what are the different types of decisions, decision-making groups, and decision-making processes (**tracheopteryx**)
- eg what goes in yearn protocol and who decides
- what defines the yearn protocol (**ghost_of_lex_node**)
- what's the goal of governance
- what are the goals for yearn in general
## Post Meeting Notes
- **ghost_of_lex_node**
- here were a couple of the todos I heard that I'd be interested in working on:
1. define "what is the yearn protocol (or yearn ecosystem?)," when is something INCLUDED IN it, who has authority to DECIDE to thus INCLUDE something in it? - develop a good view and make a proposal to be voted on by YFI holders to endorse this vision
2. help develop vesting arrangements for YFI incentive grants funded out of the new YFI buyback--I can likely help on some legal, documentation and proposal-writing aspects of this
