  • When listing a card for rent, players can choose whether it should be a season or daily rental If season rental is chosen, they specify a price per day (like normal) The market UI should be updated to allow renters to toggle between seeing season or daily rentals When renting a season rental card, the rental will be for the number of days to take it past the current season end, so for example if a player rents a card at 12:00 PM ET on Jan 1st and the season ends at 9:00 AM ET on Jan 15th, then the rental will end at 12:00 PM ET on Jan 15thAlternatively, all season rentals can be completed together right at the end of the season. We can go with whatever is easier to implement. If rentals end right at the end of the season then we need to take into account the partial payment for the last day when the card is first rented Season rentals can only be done for a single season (i.e. you can't specify that you want to rent a card for multiple seasons at one time) and cannot be cancelled If a season rental is started within 7 days from the end of the current season, then the rental will go until the end of the following season. This means that all season rentals will last a minimum of 7 days The full payment for a season rental should be sent to the card owner at the time the rental starts. There is no reason to hold funds in escrow and make daily payments since the rental cannot be cancelled

  • There are now about 120k packs left until the next 1M Chaos Legion booster packs are sold so it's time to reveal the next airdrop! This next airdrop will be the fifth Legendary Summoner card designed by players who purchased the most Chaos Legion booster packs in the pre-sale last year. The fifth Chaos Legion Legendary Summoner airdrop card will be the Death element Summoner - Astral Entity! The character was designed by @cryptoreaper and will be the 13th Chaos Legion card to be airdropped to early pack purchasers! Please keep in mind that 25k Chaos Legion packs are burned every day as a result of the recent SPS governance proposal, so packs eligible for this airdrop are guaranteed to sell out within the next week! Astral Entity will be the 28th Legendary card to be available in Chaos Legion edition booster packs, and each pack purchased up until the 13M mark will have a 0.154% chance of receiving the card, which means that 1 in every 650 packs will receive the card on average. Additionally, players will be GUARANTEED to receive one Astral Entity card for every 650 Chaos Legion packs purchased. Finally, each airdropped card received will have a 4% (or 1 out of 25) chance of being a Gold Foil version of the card.

  • Publishing a DAO treasury report has been on the to-do list for some time now, but kept getting pushed back as other priorities came up. Now that a first version of community proposals is live and the SPS validators are getting closer to testnet release, it is of increasing importance that all of you - the community of staked SPS token holders - have clear information on the DAO treasury which is ultimately yours to use as you collectively wish. The treasury currently holds assets in three wallets across four platforms (in-game, Hive Engine, Ethereum, and BNB Smart Chain). The wallet addresses with links to explorers to view the assets on the various blockchain platforms are shown below. As a side note, if any of the fantastic third-party developers in the ecosystem would like to put together a dashboard that aggregates the DAO treasury information from the various wallets and platforms in one place, that would likely be very valuable for the community to be able to track the value of the SPS DAO treasury assets in real-time. In-Game - @sps.dao (https://api2.splinterlands.com/players/balances?username=sps.dao) Hive Engine - @sps.dao (https://hive-engine.com/@sps.dao/wallet) Ethereum - 0xb951679DB9E0cA31059e7528A82A756Ecb918519 (https://debank.com/profile/0xb951679DB9E0cA31059e7528A82A756Ecb918519) BNB Smart Chain - 0xdf5Fd6B21E0E7aC559B41Cf2597126B3714f432C (https://debank.com/profile/0xdf5Fd6B21E0E7aC559B41Cf2597126B3714f432C)

  • The Splinterlands team is planning to roll out some significant changes to the rulesets in battles in the upcoming release this Tuesday, January 24th, 2023. The primary change is that up to three rulesets may be active at the same time in Gold league and higher ranked battles, as well as all Tournament and Guild Brawl battles. Previously, only two rulesets could be active for a battle. By increasing that to three it opens up exponentially more new and interesting combinations that players will need to navigate in order to crush their opponent. The chances of getting 1, 2, or 3 rulesets, as well as chances of getting the "Standard" ruleset in each league is shown below: Bronze - 75% chance of 1 ruleset / 25% chance of “Standard” ruleset Silver - 75% chance of 2 rulesets / 20% chance of 1 ruleset / 5% chance of “Standard” ruleset Gold+ / Tournament / Brawl - 75% chance of 3 rulesets / 15% chance of 2 rulesets / 8% chance of 1 ruleset / 2% chance of “Standard” ruleset

  • The Splinterlands team is excited to announce a set of 43 new Chaos Legion reward cards that are expected to be coming to loot chests near you before the month is out! As you probably already know from discussions on the town hall events, these new reward cards will be soulbound - meaning they will not be able to be transferred, rented/delegated, burned, or sold until the cards go out of print (more on that later). The shift to soulbound reward cards is a key piece of the overall goal of making the game more engaging for players and encouraging players to focus on growing their accounts over the long term rather than just farming rewards in the short term. We believe that it is extremely important to have certain things that are ONLY able to be obtained through gameplay, and not just purchased off of the market, which increases the value of playing ranked battles, moving up to higher leagues, and most importantly - combining cards. The fact that these reward cards will eventually become transferrable means that players will still be able to realize their value in the future, so this can also be viewed as a kind of long-term NFT staking. Loot Chests The new soulbound reward cards are currently planned to be release on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023, in the normal maintenance window which will be shortly after the end of the current ranked play season. As soon as the new reward cards are released they will replace the old reward cards in new loot chests. This means that the old reward cards will stop being minted, even though many of them are still well under their initially planned print limit.

  • 315da621957a3da341613dc99a8d6cc3517d8218 As most of you already know, the Splinterlands team is working on the land surveying feature which will allow players who own land deeds to survey their land and determine the terrain type, rarity, resources, and special buildings that their land contains. This proposal being put to a vote by the SPS stakeholder community will allow players surveying their land to pay 10,000 (10k) DEC tokens (roughly $6 at current prices) OR 10,000 (10k) DEC-B tokens per plot surveyed in order to gain double the normal chances of getting Rare, Epic, and Legendary plots as well as double the normal chance of getting a magical or an occupied plot. Please note that this will be one single option/payment to boost BOTH the chances of getting a more rare plot and the chances of getting more rare resources. All tokens spent for the land survey bonus would be burned. For some context, there are 150k total land plots in existence. Let's assume that 100k of those get surveyed within a few months of surveying going live and choose to get the bonus. Let's also assume that it is almost entirely paid for with DEC-B (since it would be the cheaper option) and that half of the DEC-B used for the land survey boost was bought with DEC and half was bought with VOUCHER tokens. In this scenario we will have 400M DEC burned (about 6.6% of the total supply) and 2.5M VOUCHERs burned (about 35% of the total supply) just on the land survey bonus alone. Please note that we intend to have minimum guarantees for the number of plots of each rarity and the number of plots that have a magical resource or are occupied within each Tract. This means that within each Tract of land, there will be a minimum guaranteed number of Rare plots, Epic plots, Legendary plots, plots with a Magical resource, and Occupied plots. If the boost is purchased to survey all plots within a Tract in a single transaction, then the minimum guaranteed amounts will be doubled for that Tract.

  • While currently the Splinterlands company is the only one able to submit proposals for official SPS stakeholder voting, eventually the goal is to open that up to anyone once we can ensure that it can be handled in an orderly and organized manner. Until the full community proposals system can be developed, we would like to try out a simpler, informal version that will allow the community to begin putting forth their proposals for consideration for a formal governance vote. The process that we will be trying out for community proposals is described below. As soon as this post is published, community members may begin submitting proposals following the steps below for consideration. Transfer 100,000 (100k) DEC tokens to null from the same account that will be publishing the proposal post and note the Hive blockchain transaction ID of the transfer (can be found on https://hiveblocks.com and will be added to the Currency Activity page on the Splinterlands website shortly) Publish a post on the Hive blockchain detailing the proposal and include the hive blockchain transaction with the DEC payment as the VERY FIRST LINE in the post Tag the post with #spsproposal Stakeholders can upvote the post if they support the proposal or downvote the post if they do not support the proposal After 7 days (when the voting period ends for Hive blockchain posts), the Splinterlands team will calculate the total staked SPS held by all users who upvoted the proposal post and all users who downvoted the proposal post If the total of the staked SPS in the accounts that upvoted or downvoted the post is at least 5% of the total staked SPS in the system (roughly 473M currently), at least 66% of those were upvotes, AND the proposal meets the other guidelines described below, then the proposal will move to an official vote and be published on the proposals page of the Splinterlands website.

This next airdrop will be the fourth Legendary Summoner card designed by players who purchased the most Chaos Legion booster packs in the pre-sale last year. The fourth Chaos Legion Legendary Summoner airdrop card will be the Earth element Summoner - Immortalis! The character was designed by @cyguy and the Immortal Gods group and will be the 12th Chaos Legion card to be airdropped to early pack purchasers! Please keep in mind that 25k Chaos Legion packs are burned every day as a result of the recent SPS governance proposal, so packs eligible for this airdrop are guaranteed to sell out within the next couple of days! Please note that due to the timing of the packs selling out and limited staff availability during the holidays, the Immortalis airdrop and card being available in the game will likely be delayed until early January. Immortalis will be the 27th Legendary card to be available in Chaos Legion edition booster packs, and each pack purchased up until the 12M mark will have a 0.16% chance of receiving the card, which means that 1 in every 625 packs will receive the card on average.

  • A proposal is being put forth to a vote of the SPS stakeholders to implement a system of burning DEC or VOUCHER tokens in order to receive a discount on future purchases within the Splinterlands game which will require burning DEC tokens. The way this is proposed to work is that players will be able to burn DEC tokens in order to receive 1 DEC-B token (known as "DEC Batteries"), typically at a discount, such as 0.8 DEC per 1 DEC-B, for example. In the future, for any things within the Splinterlands game which require the burning of DEC, DEC-B tokens may be used instead on a 1:1 basis. For example, if it requires 10k DEC to upgrade a certain building within the land expansion, players would be able to use 10k DEC-B tokens instead of DEC for that upgrade. Since players could purchase DEC-B tokens for 0.8 DEC each (using the example above), they then receive a 20% discount on the cost to upgrade that building by burning their DEC for DEC-B in advance. We also propose to implement the ability to purchase DEC-B with VOUCHER tokens as well, as we believe that it fits well with the main goal of the VOUCHER token which is to provide discounts and access to various things in the game. The overall goal of such a system is to incentivize players to burn DEC and/or VOUCHERs in the short term in order to gain a discount on future features. Some of the features that we expect to require burning DEC in the future (which could then receive a discount by using DEC-B) are:

  • "NEXT!" The irritated voice of a Chaos soldier spat out the order with contempt. Cruel eyes, studded armor of dark leather, and one gloved hand grasping the hilt of his blade a little too eagerly. You glance at the line of people waiting behind you. Most of them you recognize as fellow Battle Mages, and like you, they decided to keep that particular fact a secret. To the casual eye, they appeared to be no more than farmers and merchants. After all, none of you can be sure that this is not some sort of trap. You step forward. Out of your peripheral vision, you can sense the soldier staring intently. However, it is a tall, robed figure that captures your attention. Dressed in dark crimson and a hood that shrouds her features, the woman has skin like ebony and eyes as piercing and bright as amethysts. “Prove your claim,” she says. You retrieve a large, metal token from your satchel. The imprint of an exploration company on one side, the symbol of Praetoria on the other.

This next airdrop will be the third Legendary Summoner card designed by players who purchased the most Chaos Legion booster packs in the pre-sale last year. The third Chaos Legion Legendary Summoner airdrop card will be the Water element Summoner - Possibilus the Wise! The character was designed by @davemccoy and the Team Possible group and will be the eleventh Chaos Legion card to be airdropped to early pack purchasers! Even though the card is being revealed now, it won’t be “unlocked” and available in the game until after the remaining ~230,000 packs are sold. Additionally, there are a number of bulk sales from the end of year promotions that we expect to be coming in within the next couple of days that are likely to push us to the 11M packs sold mark even sooner. Possibilus the Wise will be the 26th Legendary card to be available in Chaos Legion edition booster packs, and each pack purchased up until the 10M mark will have a 0.166% chance of receiving the card, which means that 1 in every 600 packs will receive the card on average. • I know that in the past, while my title was Chief Product Officer, I wasn't really that involved in overseeing and managing the day to day of what was going on within the organization as it relates to our products. Since our recent restructuring, however, I plan to be taking on that role in a much more direct, hands-on capacity, and to that end I would like to request a few changes that will make that easier for me (and hopefully easier for everyone else too). The first thing relates to any new products, changes, or initiatives that people in the organization want to suggest or bring to the table. I would like to request that these all go through me first and be communicated via a new channel in Slack that will be created and dedicated to this purpose. I will review everything posted in that channel on a daily basis and work with @LivingSoil and @Chiclet to decide if each thing is something we want/are able to do and prioritize/organize them appropriately. This channel will be open to everyone and there can be comments / discussions on the items in threads and we can break certain items out to separate channels or have meetings about them if necessary. Some examples of things that would be appropriate for this channel are new promo cards or deals from sales and marketing, new feature suggestions like recent brawl/tournament updates from @weirdbeard, quality of life changes and suggestions from support, new product ideas from @aggroed, etc. I plan to respond at minimum with an :eyes emoji to indicate that I have seen it and that it will start going through the process. If, after 24 hours, there is no indication that I've seen something or there is no update on the status of it, please feel free to ping me about it. The second thing relates to daily updates from all of the individual contributors on the three product teams within the organization. I am respectfully requesting that everyone working on building out the product (mostly devs and creatives) publish an update in the appropriate slack channel once per day with a quick overview of what they have done over the past day, what they're planning to work on over the next day, and any blockers/questions they have. Screenshots or links are highly encouraged so others can see your work. Even if things aren't complete yet, that's fine. I plan to create three different slack channels for these updates, one for each of the three product teams (infra, enhancements, and platform) but everyone from all three teams will have access to see and participate in each of the three channels. As with the new stuff channel described above, we can comment/discuss each update in a thread and break it out or have a meeting about something if needed. I also plan to respond to every update, every day, with an :eyes emoji to indicate that I have read it. If anyone feels that I have missed something, feel free to ping me about it, and if anyone needs something from me, please ping/tag me and don't feel like you need to wait for your next daily update.

  • Today we have had to make the extremely difficult decision to reduce the size of the Splinterlands team by roughly 45%. Before anyone asks - no, we did not have any funds in FTX or any other at-risk exchanges or services, nor do we have any debt or use leverage in any way. The company had built up a long runway of funds in a combination of cash and crypto, and we used those funds throughout the year to build out our roadmap. Unfortunately, the continually weakening cryptocurrency market - in addition to the broader markets - was a double-whammy for our business. Not only did the value of our cryptocurrency holdings decrease, shortening our available runway, but also the amount of revenue that the business could bring in dropped as our community also felt the effects of the falling markets. With the recent, incredibly disheartening events occurring in the crypto industry, it is clear that this market weakness may be far worse and last for far longer than all of us had hoped, and that Splinterlands needed to take action to ensure that we can make it through a prolonged downturn and still be in a position to lead the industry on the other end. Focus on Delivering Going forward, the Splinterlands team will be 100% focused on one thing - delivering on our promises to the community. There will be no new games or presales for the foreseeable future. Despite having a smaller team, we believe we can be much more efficient through being laser focused on delivering value to the community - our most important asset. We will be working on an updated roadmap for the organization for 2023 that we plan to release before the end of the year, and we expect that it will (at least) contain the following items:

  • A little over a week has passed since the launch of Runi - Splinterlands' first PFP NFT project - and we couldn’t be more excited with how things have gone. Runi has generated tons of fun and excitement within the community, taken over Discord & Twitter PFPs, and even trended #2 on OpenSea! The public mint is now live and will run until Friday, November 25th, 2022 or until it sells out, whichever is sooner. If we reach the 25th before all 6500 Runi have been minted, then the mint will end and any unminted Runi will be lost forever! In this case the overall supply of Runi would be less than 6500, making them even more scarce. While this launch may not have been the quick sellout that the Splinterlands community has been used to, the Splinterlands team is focusing on the long term and we have some really innovative utility and features planned for Runi that we expect will make people kick themselves down the road for not having minted more while they were still available! Runi Staking & In-Game Usage The team is currently working on the staking contract & UI design to facilitate Runi staking. This development unlocks Runi being available in-game and ready for battle. This is the primary and most important utility for Runi as it is the first time that players will be able to own and battle with a card in a trading card game that is completely unique.
