# GST Council Clarifies Taxation on Popcorn The GST Council has issued a clarification on the taxation of popcorn, confirming that the tax rate will vary depending on the type and packaging of the product. Ready-to-eat popcorn mixed with salt and spices will attract a 5% GST if it is not pre-packaged and labeled. However, if it is supplied as pre-packaged and labeled, a 12% GST will be levied. Caramel popcorn, which is mixed with sugar, will be subject to an 18% GST due to its classification as a sugar confectionery. The Council has agreed that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) will issue a circular clarifying the current taxation regime of popcorn. https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/SJX9C7eByx https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/BkRV1Vlrye https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/H1bygElSke https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/HyZ6e4xHJx https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/H19EWNlSJg https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/ByBtzVgHJe https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/ryZQmNeryg https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/rJ0sQEgrJx https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/BysWNNeHkl https://hackmd.io/@y7_PZVxzSM2Ke-6SBRCNfA/SydB4VgB1x
