Arun Kumar, head of research at FundsIndia, explains that "In an environment where small-cap and mid-cap stocks do significantly better, active large-cap funds are at an advantage as they have significant exposure to smaller companies." He notes that the challenge arises when large-cap indices are driven by a few top stocks and the smaller-cap segments underperform.
