# Delhi's Power Demand Hits Record High in December Delhi's peak power demand has surged to unprecedented levels in December, crossing the 5,000 MW mark for the first time in the month's history. The State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) reported that the power demand reached a peak of 5,213 MW at 10:50 am on Tuesday, December 31st. This surpasses the previous December peak of 4,964 MW recorded in 2022, indicating a significant year-on-year increase.   The rising power demand is attributed to the plummeting temperatures in Delhi, which have led to increased usage of heating appliances and other electricity-intensive devices. Officials from the Delhi government's power distribution companies, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), have stated that they are prepared to meet the surging demand and have taken proactive measures to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the winter season.   Looking ahead, the SLDC forecasts that Delhi's peak power demand this winter could potentially surpass 6,300 MW, setting a new seasonal high. This projection highlights the growing challenge of managing the capital's power supply during extreme weather conditions.
