--- ###### tags: `Wordsmiths` --- # TW's Notes on Wordsmiths DAO 12-6-21 ### To-Do List for Existing Projects ##### RG Origin Stories RIP - Prioritize the list of interviewees - Revisit the script and update based on learnings of the MVP - Create a project-specific calendar? - Setup TW's Calendly with a project-specific signup page - Draft copy for a RG-wide announcement to attract attention to the project - Integrate all of the above into the Trello board ##### UH Marketing Campaign - Refine the proposal to integrate the new ideas, post it to the forum again, put the funding proposal on-chain - Extract the shortlist of DAOs to be interviewed - Prepare for battle: assemble the raid party with clearly defined roles - Create a project-specific calendar? - Setup TW's Calendly with a project-specific signup page - Integrate workflow into a shared board (Trello) - Setup a repo for the existing work (HackMD or Github) and to collect future contributions ##### DAOhaus Diaries - Spearheaded by earth2travis. Will he want to open it up to Wordsmiths contributions? - How will the compensation scheme work? A separate stream from his Rangers/Warcamp flow. ##### RG Shillshop - WS should have a representative to relay essential information and identify opportunities to contribute ##### DeathGuild of MolochDAO - TW is lead researcher/creative - Preparing for battle: assemble a team of WS to: - Identify transmedia outlets - Gather sentiment from the community - Marketing: show value of these convos to the ecosystem - Plan for next funding round - Prepare to gather more interviews at EthDenver and beyond - Further articulate the need for a divergent research guild for MolochDAO ##### MetaGame Playbooks - An opportunity for WS to serve as mentors for aspiring scribes coming into the ecosystem. - MetaGame collects them, RaidGuild vets them, Wordsmiths helps them find their way - Compensation from MG gets them started, RG cohort gets them grounded, WS offers scribe-centric community - A powerful learning experience: apprentices document these pathways to fortify the RaidGuild handbook (below) ##### RaidGuild Seasonal Cohort Handbook - Some groundwork laid in the RG Origin Stories RIP via the Freelancer Handbook section (Archers visited by Moloch, awaiting wireframing). - WS could take up this RIP! Contribution to the onboarding process and form best practices for apprenticeships - Kerp's idea in last week's RG roundtable: a RIP dedicated to someone taking the minutes during the cohort, leading towards apprentice educational material - Create an open repo of best practices or standard procedures for apprentice orientation - How does contribution work with this project? - Signup sheet? Totally open? - Who screens/vets content? - How is quality/accuracy determined? - Requires clear relations between veterans and apprentices, *perhaps related to RaidGuild mentorship/championing procedures* - Starts with *documenting our own experiences, especially now in setting up this Wordsmiths DAO* - This is a "service" that every DAO in the ecosystem currently needs: - MolochDAO, RaidGuild, DAOhaus, MetaGame, PadawanDAO, MetaCartel, etc. - Leading to... 👇🏽 ##### Documenting DAO Experiments - Dekan is always asking for this. DAOhaus & RaidGuild seem to have the biggest need here. - For example, the Gitcoin comic raid: - Authored by an individual (DAOJones?) or the collective WS? - As a public good for the whole community? - Retroactive compensation for the writers? - WS needs to supplement the scribe stack with new tools: - HackMD, Github, Docusaurus - OBS to record meetings, Otter.ai to AI transcribe - WS style guide, repo of templates - Just producing the notes doesn't mean anyone will read them! - Clear immediate need for **Rangers** to extrapolate main ideas into clear reports for specific users: - Synthesize data into learnings, identify users and use cases, provide suggestions on how to make decisions - *Primary goal is to preserve the bandwidth of the builders* ### DAO Structure #### Setup Project Minions - Minion #1 = RG OS/FH - Minion #2 = UH Marketing - Collect wallet addresses to submit on-chain funding proposals #### Speculative/Future Minions - Minion #3 = DAOhaus Diaries - Minion #4 = DeathGuild - Minion #5 = Wordsmiths DAO Experiments - Funding comes from WS treasury? Collected from spoils we all pay into? Leading to... 👇🏽 #### WordsmithsDAO Warchest - Spoils/tribute parameters need to be articulated. 10%? - What are these funds for? - WS creative projects. How are they proposed? - Why is this kept separate from RaidGuild? - *Goal: create a regenerative/sustainable treasury to sustain the ambitions of this working group* - Need to research how other DAOs are structuring: start with Warcamp! - Document this research/process (obviously) to add to the open-source knowledge of DAOs. Where does this information live? #### Compensation for Interviewees - How does it work? - DeathGuild has budget dedicated to this. What about the RG OS, UH Marketing, and future projects? #### Wordsmiths Roles in Relation to RaidGuild - Especially the WS relation to Shillshop - WS are first and foremost a working group of **Scribes** and **Clerics**, but there is a lot of need (in these tasks outlined above) for **Hunters, Bards, Healers, non-technical Monks, and Rangers** - Further define differences between technical and non-technical scribes? Differentiate *lore crafters* from *handbook technicians*? - Marketing-focused vs manifesto-focused? - Content production for blogs vs contributions to DAO handbooks? - Core community vision and values leading to manifestos distinct from codes of conduct or community manager guidelines? - TW's vote is that designers, devs, and other roles are not included, as they should form their own content-specific working groups - Need to articulate best practices for member contributions - The relations between these roles might be diagrammed to identify missing elements and red circle the pain points - Wordsmiths should be kept small! Membership should be highly permissioned! > *We don't need more voices; we need to craft clear, coherent, comprehensive infrastructure that can function autonomously. If we aren't creating more value for RaidGuild, preserving bandwidth for individual Wordsmith contributors, and distributing clear/strong contributions to the rest of the ecosystem **then this DAO is unjustified and should be dissolved.** #### Wordsmiths Structure in Relation to RaidGuild and the Larger Ecosystem - *Holons within holons*: nested architecture of granular complexity, allowing us to focus on the minutae - WS is a bridge between DAOs: wormholes between DAO galaxies, communication bridges on our Discord server to track these communications - WS focuses on broadcasting cannonical lore - WS helps identify and articulate vision and values for orgs: the DNA/RNA of the superoganism - WS supports painless onboarding of quality contributors into the ecosystem, helping them locate where there is the most need - WS focuses on the *imagination technology* as much as the codification of values: poets and coders working together - Mother DAOs (RG, DH, etc) are formed around larger and more general initiatives. **WS forms from the need of more acute & specialized focus, to increase the acuity of focus itself** - We need the blessing of Founders/Elders to not be perceived as competitive: WS is non-rivalrous! - Requires divergent & convergent appendages to the org, defined by squads or sub-working groups - Need to illustrate this structure #### Guiding Principles - **Wordsmiths is the apparatus for recording the articulation of DAO identity.** We are the eyes, ears, and voice of the community. - Kino eye that documents activities in real time so that the builders can focus on building - *journalism* - Like a game of telephone, whispering the ideas through the community and tracking their changes - *signal relay* (more than an echo chamber that muddles the message): *whispers that form waves that wash away the noise* - Metatron is our mythological agent, archangel serving as the conduit between godly voices and terrestrial inhabitants: *translator between worlds* - **WS puts the Future-We over the Now-Me.** Web3-DAOs break the legacy systems. We are moving towards asynchronous collaboration, optimizing for human values over economic rewards. Regen over degen! - **WS embrace failures as formative lessons.** Failure in-forms our individual behaviors and out-forms the composition of our organization - *like scars that serve as a reminder, like a calcified skeleton that defies the pull of gravity, like an ear formed from ions of earthquakes*. We welcome hard lessons. - More than learning, we are dedicated to the application of our experiences by continuing to speculate into the future. > *We are not separating from RaidGuild for economic gain. We must be careful not to cause more chaos, to take away from existing projects, but focus on optimizing to put more value back in to the projects we believe in. **With every action we should reflect on the value created for RaidGuild and other WS members.*** #### How to Track Community Health - Explore existing contribution quantification tools: - Coordinape, SourceCred, Govrn - How do they account for the *quality of the contributions?* - How might they be used for our purposes? - Compare to DAOhaus' Warcamp new compensation scheme - Clearly articulate apprentice onboarding process - WS should be a child DAO of RG to glean from the best minds in the space - Need to setup some WS infrastructure: - WS Discord - Embassies to other DAO servers - Bots for DAO notifications: DH boost - Discourse: DH boost - Snapshot for soft polls, or Sesh.fyi polls? - Related to a current need for the Gitcoin comic raid: - How can casual contributors submit PR to change cannonical lore? Cannonical lore = policy for a DAO, structure of a handbook, the guiding ideology of a community, or in the case of this raid it is the *truth* of a sci-fi/fantasy narrative - Explore technical considerations of how to setup this infrastructure. Research how ConsenSys setup the *Cellarius Universe Guide* - Retroactive compensation: - How do we prove the value of this work? How might we retro-comp *this work we are doing now?* Not for reasons of greed, but to incentivize similar work in the future. - Related to other initiatives: - DiamondDAO's initiative for inclusive DAO design - HR for DAOs: protecting human values towards a sustainable DAO psychology - Compensation for non-technical contributors: community facillitators/managers, social connectors, philosophical/artistic content, etc. - Mental health for DAOs: supporting mental divergence, identifying PTSD, trauma therapy for DAOists #### Next Steps: Action Points - Organize this information into a presentation for our peers in RaidGuild, UberHaus, DAOhaus, ReallyBoringGuild, etc. - Create a slide deck? Inspired by Felipe's incredible work for The DAOist. - Record a video narration through the content? - Gather sentiment from key members: - Founders/Elders: Deacon Dekan, Ven, Sam - Core RaidGuilders: Spencer, Tae, Kerp, JP, etc. - Representatives of other DAOs: MetaGame (peth), ReallyBoringGuild, etc. - Setup the compensation streams - Summon the minions - Clarify this flow in the repsective proposals before submitting on-chain - Organize into workstreams for the above points - Identify WS members that will own specific tasks, contributing to the articulation of our internal roles.
