--- ###### tags: `Wordsmiths` --- # TW's Notes on Wordsmiths DAO 11-28-21 ## Structure/Integration of Existing Projects - Let's outline a course of action for the following projects: - RaidGuild RIP: Origin Stories - UberHaus Raid: Origin Stories - Let's form a working group to figure out how to properly structure this. TW can provide a foundation as a starting point. Who's in? - End goal is to define work stream for both projects - Can serve as a template for how to integrate other projects moving forward (DAOhaus Origin Stories?) - Figure out transparent compensation mechanisms - Coordinape? SourceCred? - Raid/RIP Parties Identified? Requires clear Cleric role - Can we errect a decentralized system so that contributors can come and go? - We want fair wages, while keeping prices as low as possible for the client - There are other potential ecosystem incentives beyond economic gain! - Liquidiot, Jengajojo, and TW have discussed this already. Let's open it up to the DAO and form a working group with a roadmap - DAOJones, Plor, and TW have been exploring this area with the Gitcoin Comic Raid. Integrate these learnings - earth2travis certainly has some strong ideas here - We have a strong cast of characters - veteran and apprentice scribes - at our disposal. How do we swarm these projects collectively to free up individual bandwidth and continue to seek out new and exciting oppertunities? - These existing projects need more clarity for their workflow. Let's form a working group of Clerics to converge on this need, document the process, and create infrastructure to build off of. Certainly there is existing documentation on this front. Where is it? ## Thoughts on Onboarding Apprentices & PoW ### How do we create an open-source scribe contribution framework? - Does this already exist (Github PR workflow as industry standard) or might it be improved upon? - It's more complicated than identifying admin for a project. How can changes be voted upon? What is the mechanism? Quadratic voting + Github/Radicle PR + best practices documentation = Wordsmiths workflow? - Can we form a working group - or at least have a meeting - on this issue? - Reference the Gitcoin Comic conversation happening with DAOJones + Plor + TW, related to the *Cellarius Universe Guide.* Something like this: - Repo: Github or Radicle? - Contributors create issues/pull requests for a change - PR becomes a proposal that DAO members vote on, but not on the DAOhaus/Moloch UI, so where? - Is voting based on DAO shares/weighted? Or unweighted (one person = one vote)? Is there a different process for soft consensus vs on-chain voting? Does it even need to be on-chain? - What are the ramification of collusion or manipulation? Reputation slashing, or does it require economic risk? - Is there a difference between a vote that shifts content vs a vote that shifts policy? - Clearly defining this structure would be beneficial for the whole ecosystem. Similar to projects like Monster Maps, DAOhaus' wargames, BoilerDAO's DAO-centric narrative generation, and Consensys' Cellarius Universe Guide. Could be adapted in numerous creative ways. A potential collaboration with DAOhaus geniuses (Dekan, Ven, Sam)? ### Apprentice Contributions - How to evaluate quality/quantity of work? - TW still believes it would be in everyone's best interest to integrate onboarding with the existing RaidGuild seasonal cohort process, because: - It shows reciprocal support for RaidGuild and avoids us having to reinvent the wheel. - RG already has this all in place! We can help streamline their system - Avoids the need for internal WS compensation - Preserves time/attention of WS members, avoids having *another* DAO to custodian, allows us to focus on RaidGuild as the mother DAO and WS as a working group - WS can devise unique tasks for the next seasonal task list. Might be existing RIPs/Raids, or new ones we identify as a need. Performance on these tasks results in invitation to join Wordsmiths DAO. Prerequisite is being a RG Scribe. - If we go independent, then perhaps a bounty system? - Something between RaidGuild cohort and Gitcoin bounties? - PoW channel on Discord to showcase/prove work? Who evaluates? What are the criteria? How much time does it take? How is it quantified and compensated? - We want the DAO to be open to anyone potentially, but there must be a system for evaluating contributor work before expanding. *Membership is permissioned.* ## Rant on the Importance of Imagination Technology: Mythology/Lore of the Web3-DAO Ecosystem - There are many philosophical ideas that remain poorly articulated in the ecosystem. We might rise to the task! - Pragmatically, we might offer the articulation of vision and values of a DAO in order to render their manifesto - More than meme-based development? What are the pros and cons of this method? - earth2travis' *Vision and Values* workshop lays a strong foundation! We might elaborate on this - We might provide a structured, quantifiable, researched workflow for identifying users and their needs to identify the foundational relations - to identify the "red thread" that allows for cultural alignment, allows would-be contributors to find their place (get oriented), provides visibility of openings (like receptor sites), to avoid mass onboarding in preference for careful, deliberate, nuanced onboarding of highly aligned individuals. - Articulates the values before the mechanics! So we might learn to lead with the head rather than the subliminal momentum of the body (metaphorically speaking). - This is the public good offering to the greater community: more intention, less impulsivity! - Must be balanced with momentum: can't go too slowly! - Wordsmiths might craft a space for meditating upon the larger historical arc that we are immersed in. - References: - Bankless podcast on Digital Leviathans - MolochDAO's Whitepaper: articulating the world as a rivalrous economic game via MoM - MetaCartel's profound community-first ethos built upon an anonymous African proverb - Meme-based mechanics are strong for disseminating ideas, but if the content of those ideas are anemic then it's actually disseminating potentially harmful information! - Let's avoid issues of "brand identity" and aesthetic considerations. - This is really about identifying core values and the cultural vehicles that transport those values. - There is a larger need in the ecosystem: - Diamond DAO, Jovian, MetaGammaDelta, and other orgs conducting research on inclusive design - Need for diversity and open ethos - HR, conflict resolution, and related issues in DAOs - What are the philosophies that the metaverse is built upon? - Kevin Owocki's emphasis of *Bentoism* - open-source software/knowledge as a digital public good that leads towards physical public goods - Wordsmiths might align these ideas to each other - How do we lego ideology to construct cultural alignment? - How do we measure the health of a community? - What is the greater purpose of DAO-to-DAO relations? - What is the scale of our considerations? - Organelles in a cell? Organs to a body? Hemispheres of the brain? Or something more distributed: forest, mycelial networks, slime mold, ant/bee hive? *Providing clarity on the metaphor will clarify the ingrained biases carried through our communications.* - We can only be aware of the layer of complexity that we are immersed in. Wordsmiths might differentiate attention to various layers of complexity, a topology ranging from the individual, to local tribes, to the nation-state (digital Leviathan), to more abstract articulations of the noosphere (as a model for Ethereum?). - The Ethereum manifesto/ideology needs to be researched and critiqued! - We might begin by articulating the structure of Wordsmiths as a working group of RaidGuild at an incredibly high fidelity and focus on how to render this service DAO into a supporter of these more philosophical initiatives
