{%hackmd theme-dark %} # Factions This is a list of most factions in the game, with a short blurb describing the faction and its motives, along with a link to relevant notes if they exist. ## Nanotrasen ## The Syndicate *In one of his many fables, Aesop wrote about a father, his sons, and a bundle of sticks. The father gave each son a stick from the bundle and told them to break it, and so they did with ease. Then, the father gave the sons the entire bundle and told them to snap it in two. Try as they might however, none of the sons were able to do any damage to the sticks.* *Alone, we will snap in half like twigs, but together, we can stand strong against any that wish ill against us.* The Syndicate is the largest coalition of corporations, polities, special interest groups, and other organized factions of various sizes and origins, united to one call: **Death to Nanotrasen.** The simple motto of the Syndicate, providing a simple explanation of their goals. All members of the Syndicate wish to see Nanotrasen toppled from its pedestal above the galaxy, whether it be to free the people or eliminate the competition. In the past, the Inter-Corporate War put the hurt on NT, but ended in a Syndicate defeat after Rigel. Humbled, the Syndicate now licks its wounds, using subterfuge and guerilla tactics to weaken Nanotrasen until an ample opportunity to cut the head off the snake presents itself. The afterglow gently drifts through the stained glass of the office windows, dancing across the desk while a symphony of of silver nibs on rag paper battles for dominance against the clicking of typewriters and rattle of fax machines. The frozen starlight burns less coldly in the presence of familiarity, and are we not all a family forged in bureaucracy and tempered in unity?* SolGov (or the "Most Serene Solar and Intersolary Government") is the largest single polity currently known, directly descended from the Terran nation-states of old. Having enjoyed two centuries of comfort and prosperity, SolGov's main concern is stability of the realm and maintaining supremacy. The Administration of such a vast realm necessitates a equally vast bureaucracy, which in turn has engulfed most of the private sector in order to sustain itself. However a general disdain for AI and digitalization tie up most of SolGov's manpower with the day-to-day running of its core sectors, resulting in the few surviving private companies being occasionally chartered to colonize and administrate new systems under oversight of the Intersolary Assembly and Ministry of Intersolary Development. More information on SolGov, the Intersolary Assembly, and the Ministry of Intersolary Development can be found [here.](/UULoJo4qS-adVI8wYy7mUQ) ## Other Factions These are factions that do not warrant a main section, either out of a lack of importance or gameplay relevance. ### Silovik Russia *A falcon flies against the storm, but little know the nature of it's struggle.* These words describe Russia simply enough. What was once a prosperous federation turned into a radio-silent military Junta, *Silovik Russia*, in a matter of weeks, bombing its own planets into the stone age. No one gets in, and anyone who gets out is either just as ignorant as the rest of the galaxy, or sworn to silence on the matter. SolGov military analysts are baffled, Nanotrasen economists are scrambling to understand what's going on, and the Syndicate watches and wonders how this will shake the status quo. Conspiracy theories about religious movements or alien invaders are plentiful, but conclusive answers to what Russia is fighting so desperately are not. ### The PSC ### The Spider Clan ###### tags: `Lore`
