# EESSI/VSC sync meeting
## 2023-09-25
- EESSI status
- pilot repository version 2023.06 (under `eessi-hpc.org`)
- actively building out software stack via PRs to `EESSI/software-layer` repo + build-and-deploy bot
- preparing move to new CernVM-FS setup (under `eessi.io`)
- hitting problems left and right with software test suite, mostly on Arm 64-bit Neoverse V1 systems
- procedure in place to deal with this (ignore small number of failing tests, open issue, and contact upstream)
- actively developed in scope of MultiXscale task 1.1
- EESSI bot status
- v0.1.0 release (very) soon
- only needs update of README
- working quite well to build/deploy software for EESSI (pilot 2023.06)
- some known issues, some specific to EESSI context
- supports use of custom `bot/build.sh` + `bot/check-build.sh` scripts
- tracking of what is installed via easystack files
- see for example https://github.com/EESSI/software-layer/blob/2023.06/eessi-2023.06-eb-4.8.0-2021a.yml
- *should* be able to use it in non-EESSI context (like to automate installations in `/apps` for VSC clusters)
- untested
- could look into using it for new cluster(s)...
- actively developed in scope of MultiXscale task 5.3
- for VSC
- use bot to automate building for different VSC clusters
- shared software stack via NFS
- next step would be EESSI (no own CVMFS)
- EESSI test suite status
- collection of ReFrame tests + some supporting functionality (hooks, tags, common logging setup, ...)
- portable tests (assuming that software was installed with EasyBuild)
- includes tests for (only) GROMACS + TensorFlow
- ReFrame submits Slurm jobs, checks whether test passed + collects performance data
- tested on Hortense + HPC-UGent Tier-2 (+ SURF, Slurm cluster in AWS, Vega, etc.)
- v0.1.0 release (very soon)
- last hurdle is proper docs (see [PR #110](https://github.com/EESSI/docs/pull/110))
- can consider using this for post-maintenance tests, maybe also doing performance monitoring (weekly runs)
- either using EESSI, or using local software installs
- actively developed in scope of MultiXscale task 1.3
- plans to develop dashboard together with visualisation team @ SURF (in scope of MultiXscale task 5.2)
- plan
- private repo under github.com/vscentrum
- Lara tries to use bot to build software for HPC-UGent Tier-2 clusters in her VSC account
- VUB tries to reproduce later if it works
- next sync meeting:
