# Notes on candidates for bonkbot UI ## Frontend Developers ### Boosty Labs #### Pros - seems fairly standard from a foreign devshop perspective - web3 native - seems capable of the job - will likely be able to move quickly - could possibly do design and build - fairly adaptable (augmented development/isolated) #### Cons - unsure of consistency from the team and maintenance of the code - unsure of quality since we do not know the individuals who will work on this project specifically #### Questions - would like to check how snappy/performant some of the more complex/chart based products they've built have been - how are the edge cases, buggy if we leave the window open for a while, does it slow down if we click around significantly - Are they using prebuilt components/templates/design libraries or their own in house ones? ### Askhat #### Pros - Seems capable - Understands react end to end well and understands how to make things performant - Gets the UX tricks around making an application even more snappy - Willing to move very quickly by using material ui templates and components. I believe this is the right way, we don't need to build things from scratch - He built all the components on jetsim.app from scratch. It is fast, snappy, looks good #### Cons - Not web3 native - Shows signs of underestimating some of the work #### Neutral - He doesn't seem to zoom out and think of all the components in the end-to-end UX ahead of time - This could be a sign of not building extremely complex UIs singlehandedly or could be a positive sign that he wants to get things working on the page first. However, usually thinking about how the pieces make up the parts ahead of time leads to cleaner code and better collab with a designer #### Question - Might be worth seeing a bit of his code since the approach of getting the page working then thinking of components may not always be the cleanest I do think he is capable of building this frontend and using a template library, honestly, seems to me to be easier to hand off down the road vs. building a bunch of tech debt. ### Greene Street I was thinking Andrew and Nicita did the development, but it looks like they have designers and developers they work with directly. Nicita does do backend work. #### Pros - They could free up a lot of time on the product side as well since both of them seem to have a strong web3 product mindset - Nicita can do backend work directly, understands RPCs, and is highly web3 native - They have worked on uniswap, rainbow, and other trading based platforms. They did not share a direct link to a UX that is highly complex, but I do think they are competent - Could manage design as well and could be fairly independent - Understood performance, unfurling, primitives from the frontend side - Derek Nelson, the frontend engineer they might put on this could be strong - They've done work directly with polymarket and their trading app, this is highly analagous - Seems like they could get it done in 6-8 weeks #### Cons - How many projects are they working and will they just subcontract a lot of it? - How much time will Nicita put directly on this project and how long will derek put in - How strong is their designers/contractors - Cost could potentially be high ## Designers ### Wonderstruck #### Pros - Seems highly capable - Seems to already have a good relationship - Asked all the right questions on the UX - Will not go directly into components, but understands how to create boundaries and work well with a frontend team/engineer - Their other example work seems highly analagous - Confident, practical, understands speed to delivery - Flexible on design systems or no design systems #### Cons - Honestly, didn't have too many cons ### Adurant Labs #### Pros - Has produced clean, beautiful designs - Tends to take a long-term approach to things #### Cons - Got design-centric, design-first vibes from them. I see bonkbot as an engineer-first culture. Utility, simplicity first and not necessarily a UX company. - 0xDesigner, Sona, both had beautiful designs on web pages and even the apps, but from a UX perspective for a complex app were not highly functional in my opinion - Too excited about doing everything from scratch, going very long term, and underestimated doing components from scratch vs. templates - Feels like they may produce very nice mocks, but miss the product target
