Summary of Work

Customize the Pokemol interface for MetaFactory's Genesis DAO, with structure in place for MF to launch similarly customized Pokemols for other Brands as MF Brand Factories.

This is a summary of the project's goals through this proposal:

  • Customize visual theme to match MF's branding (logo, fonts, colors, etc)
  • Remove all non-essential functions and UI elements (Ragequit, Update Delegate, etc)
  • Update language (Share => Membership Points, etc)
  • Replace raw eth addr with social-friendly 3Box profile data (avatar, name, etc)
  • Zero proposal deposit, grace, etc
  • Allow for a newly launched factory by MF to accept this same 'theme' (stretch goal to allow custom theme for each factory)
  • Image and gif support in link input on new proposals and in proposal detail

Assumptions

  • Moloch V1
  • Custom ERC20 (basically wrapped DAI) with whitelist function which allows 'Redeem'
  • Stick with Web3 Login for now (no SDK)
  • There will be only 2 DAOs to start with. If the system works for MF, we should think about spining up a 'daohaus' clone that is fully scoped to MF's needs to launch Brand Factories in the future.

An emergence from greater studies into cooperative network ecologies in connection to the Pluriverse effort One day I was laying in the grass with a book and listening to psychedelic pop songs, as one does on an improbably sunny spring day in the Pacific North West. A song came on that I had heard many times before, each time imagining these hidden feelings between individuals, prospective lovers. Certainly because I was reading The Evolution of Cooperation (Axelrod, 1984) and daydreaming about Great Filters at the time, I imagined this unseen love existing between all individuals, a love lost across the entire human population, turning a sad song into an epic tragedy of Molochian discoordination. The Great Filter refers to these required filters, or barriers to development, that biological organisms must pass through as they exist over time, in order to survive and/or become more complex. Life needs the right star system, single cell assemblages before it can go multicellular, all the way to tools, technology, and who knows what other filters may emerge in the future. The Great Filter being the one that stops civilizations from becoming interplanetary/stellar/galactic. Sociobiologically, for us here and now, I began thinking that the endless zero-sum competition represents the nearest barrior to our development as a species, the highest probability catalyst to not surviving past the Great Filter. To me, learning how to cooperate better would seem the foundational next step required for humans to survive beyond these circumstances. My proposition would not be that we need to eliminate competition, competition is indeed necessary. Rather I propose that we need to greatly modulate and incentivize toward more cooperation if we are indeed all gonna make it. Why do we need DAOs? Starting an organisation with someone that involves funding requires a lot of trust. It's hard to trust someone you've only ever interacted with on the internet. With DAOs you don't need to trust the other individuals in the group, just the DAO's code, which is 100% transparent and verifiable by anyone. How do DAOs work? The backbone of a DAO is its smart contract. The contract defines the rules of the organisation and holds the group's treasury. Once the contract is live on Ethereum, no one can change the rules except by a vote. If anyone tries to do something that's not covered by the rules and logic in the code, it will fail. And because the treasury is defined by the smart contract too that means no one can spend the money without the group's approval either. This means that DAOs don't need a central authority. Instead the group makes decisions collectively and payments are authorised automatically when votes pass. This is possible because smart contracts are tamper-proof once live on Ethereum.
