# Vac overview Vac is an R&D org creating modular p2p protocols for private, secure, censorship resistant communication. While Vac has a core team, it is an open and permission-less organization. ## Team overview ### People | | | | | -------- | -------- | -------- | | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Oskar (GMT+8) | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Sanaz (GMT-7) | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Hanno (GMT+2) | | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Franck | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Daniel (GMT+2) | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Mark (GMT+2) | | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
Ben (CEST: GMT + 1)| ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
New Hire #4 | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
New Hire #5 | | ![](https://i.imgur.com/NQdoVxm.jpg =200x)
New Hire #6 | ### Focus areas - Oskar (Vac/protocol research/nim-waku lead) - Sanaz (protocol research and nim-waku team) - Hanno (protocol research and nim-waku team) - Franck (DappConnect/js-waku lead) - Daniel (protocol research and nim-waku team) - Ben (Rust/Nim engineer) - *Two new production hires (nim-waku)* - *Two new research hires* - *One new contracts hires (nim-waku, backfill)* - *One new DappConnect hire* As well as many other people who contribute in the form of research, specifications, client implementations, ideas, etc. ### Research team The research team is focused on research and specifications of protocols within the general scope of Vac. Waku v2 is the current main focus, and the main client is nim-waku. Overlaps with the research team, which is also ensuring this is production-ready. Initial research goes here, tight feedback loops and synergies with other research projects such as nim-libp2p, Nimbus, Dagger, etc. We are in the process of building out a production team here. Repo: https://github.com/status-im/nim-waku/ Board: https://github.com/status-im/nim-waku/projects #### js-waku New implementation with a focus on enabling Waku through browsers as well as supporting wallet integrations. Maintained by the DappConnect team. Repo: https://github.com/status-im/js-waku Board: https://github.com/status-im/js-waku/projects/1 #### go-waku New implementation with a focus on implementing a subset of Waku v2 to get it into the app. Long term, there might be some overlap with Status Network here. Can possibly act as thin layer on top of nim-waku exposed C API, or similar, in the future to avoid double effort. Maintained by the Status Desktop team. See [go-waku home](https://hackmd.io/@status-desktop/main/%2Fi_HqD9VYRB6CsPslmqr_OQ) over at the Status Desktop wiki for more details. ## DappConnect DappConnect is a new production team focused on making Waku useful for integrating with wallets and DApps. We want to use grants and similar as much as possible here. See js-waku section above. ## Outreach - [Platform outreach](https://hackmd.io/mtrlhXt3RCS5g5TNM_XPMg) - [Operator outreach](https://hackmd.io/S143hy7cSWeUcozN2CfSCg) - [Research outreach](https://hackmd.io/JTdO4g85QjSNsuVDUaHOdA)
