# Backstory
- 2028: The biggest meteor since the Tunguska impacts the Mediterranean Sea. A previously unseen mineral is recovered.
- 2056: Climate change wreaks havoc at an unprecedented rate. Death and panic ensues.
- 2057: Several countries and corporations across the globe sign the Pact of Unity, sharing their military, resources, and technology.
- 2058: The war begins.
- 2063: Scientists under the Pact theorize of possible purifiers that may reverse, or at least stop the catastrophe.
- 2065: The war ends. Earth is now controlled by the United Government.
- 2067: The first AP-XL machine is created. It manages to purify an entire hundred thousand square meter area, using a reserve of the now named "Aereutite".
- 2071: The majority of the Aereutite reserves are used. Attempts to synthesize more have failed. The United Government has focused its resources on space travel.
- 2074: A group of mining ships is built, traveling across the Solar System to detect and plunder Aereutite asteroids.
- 2083: The Solar System is fully excavated. Half of the Aereutite reserves are gone. Many miners onboard the mining ships have either quit or passed away. Prototyping of the first FTL engine commences.
- 2088: The first ship to support FTL travel is built, a crew of 54 was scrambled together. The lack of a mining crew gives way to drastic measures. The ship becomes a labor camp, with prisoners of the United Government being forced to mine or be tortured.
- 2089: The nearest stars of the Solar System are scanned with no sign of the resource. Mini-FTL engines and cryostasis technology are developed, leading to the creation of Support Pods. These allow supplies and new labor personnel to embark on a one-way flight to the ship.
- 2090: The ship arrives at CN-200, a system of asteroids rich with Aereutite.
- 2091: Excavation starts on the final asteroid in the mining mission. You are sent on a pod to the ship. In the meantime, a catastrophe happens onboard.
