Dear Dr. Nguyen
I want to address an issue which arose this morning before you came in. Today, I sat at the scanner seat up front. Before seating down, I cleaned up my work station and threw away an open container of Gatorade which had been left overnight among other things. This was not the first time I've cleaned up and thrown away food trash left overnight. That includes the time I threw away cold soup that was left at the front all night long.
I would like your direction as to what to do with food left overnight at the clinic. I have been trying to clean up food trash anytime I see it after closing or in the morning. This includes open beverages and leftovers like the wings left at the front earlier this week.
Today, however, Isela came in and started asking about the gatorade. I told her I'd thrown it in the trash because sweet drinks left open overnight can attract bugs. At this point she became very irrate to the point of cursing at me for throwing away the drink. She then accused me of throwing away another drink on a previous day. As I said above, I have previously thrown away food trash at the end of the day or in the morning, but at no point have I ever thrown away a drink or food that someone was consuming.
I have always tried to be conscious about keeping a clean workspace as you have instructed us to. Particularly up front where patients can see if the area is clean or not. Please let me know how to better handle food trash left in the clinic after work. As always, I defer to your judgement on these matters.
Thank you,
Paul
