# New players and TGMC ## The issue As all games/servers, we have a semi-constant inflow of new players. These players as expected have no fuckn idea what they're doing (the ss13 vertical skill curve doesn't help), which is a problem because: A) They pull down their team (FF, "throwing") B) They leave because they have no idea how anything works and get bored or overloaded C) It's perma EORD ## How can we determine the scope of issue One of the things we can do to dtermine where we should target our efforts is to run some data analysis on players in the DB e.g how fast do they quit, what time of the round they log out etc. This is ambitious but I think long term if we set up a data oriented approach to devving we can expand this to things like balancing or measuring long term game health determinants. We already do this with maps and gamemodes but it is just someone going through it manually which is lol. # The approach To increase the effectiveness it is best to supply players with a pallete of places to get info. ## Vector 1: Wiki Changes: - Make the wiki more bite sized: its filled with text walls rn - Focus on small guides on "how to play x tldr" - TRIM THE TEXT DOWN YES I MEAN IT - Throw the wiki in new players faces when they connect, add a button to the Lobby screen as well ## Vector 2: In-game popups See tg: they have ingame popups for what an item does when you l/rclick it etc, as well as contextual tutorials which is stuff like "how to switch hands". Just generally copy their stuff here. ## Vector 3: Dedicated tutorials Add dedicated tutorials in game. IE teleports you to an area and you do x and why. Sorta like how CM does it. Can be accessed while dead and from lobby. Code should be as dumbed down and abstracted as possible so we can have anyone make more tutorials. Would be a good "your first pr" ideally. ## Vector 4: Reworking prep Mainly: - Make basic loadouts more in the face for new players - Make it more obvious where you need to go, ties back in to 2 - rework weapon/armor UIs to be more player friendly
