  • Today we have turned on beta stream for Aurora. For now this stream is just to test the new Bazaar flatpak storefront. We also have krunner extension for it, and it should show results in the krunner prompt when searching for applications. How to switch to the beta stream Switching to the beta stream is easy. You just use the bootc switch command. For example if you are on aurora-dx image and want to move to the beta: sudo bootc switch ghcr.io/ublue-os/aurora-dx:latest What is next

  • Solves https://github.com/ublue-os/aurora-docs/issues/104 Comparison Between Aurora and Bazzite Both are end-user images from Universal Blue and are intended to be "maintenance-free" desktop Linux operating systems. Bazzite's Goals Bazzite is primarily focused on PC gaming Bazzite also has "Developer Experience (-dx)" images in the same sense that Aurora has them. These are currently low priority and a work-in-progress at this time, but contributions are welcome.

  • All of this is subject to change through discussion Each of the H1 sections are going to be their own individual page either in the docs or on the main Bazzite website After we have had some time to hack on this, putting these in place will the first major proposal I'd like to do using the new system. There are certain items that are bold and have a @name next to them. I would like extra attention paid to those parts of the document Mission Bazzite's mission is to make gaming and everyday use smoother and simpler across desktop PCs, handhelds, tablets, and home theater PCs. @kyle @antheas (I would like to workshop this a bit. It's too long and wordy. I would also like to update the website with whatever we come up with here.) Bazzite is a project under Universal Blue. We inherit all aspects of Universal Blue's mission along with our own mission below.

  • One of the reasons we've been very careful about our commitments around Bluefin LTS is due to the nature of the role it has to fill. Therefore we're pretty shy about calling it ready even though for all intents and purposes it's ready to go. One of these pain points has been uncertainty around secure boot. While this is handled in Fedora, after talking to leaders in CentOS and Red Hat, we now have a path forward for something that would more sustainable for us. Therefore Bluefin LTS is back on the table, but we've also discovered that there are also many places we could be coordinating with CentOS. For example there's multiple kernel configurations, and kmods work that we could be leveraging, etc. But this will take time and volunteers. After talking to folks in the CentOS project, we think a slow burn beta is the way to go since many of us are busy and only working on this part time. I personally use this on the majority of my machines and it's my preferred Bluefin. As outlined before, this is more about our ability to make a support commitment than a technical one. We'll likely target a GA date later in the Fall.

  • Thank you to everyone who responded to my uCore retirement post! Not only did you share feedback here, but also in the Discord, in public and private channels. After discussing with several team members, we agree: uCore will NOT be retiring. There's simply no need. Clearly people value uCore and are hesitant to get excited about a new project without first seeing it, especially when the first thing presented is a retirement message rather than an invitation to see the new option. In retrospect, this is perfectly obvious, and my post probably seemed quite shocking, a case of having the cart before the horse. Though I'd been thinking many of these things for some time, only a few people really knew it. Myself and other team members run uCore on many systems, and that won't change until our new bootc based server project is ready for us to switch over. We hope to have a seamless migration path for uCore users, but even with that, we have no reason to consider retiring the uCore unless data shows users have moved over. All said, we will immediately streamline uCore builds, aligning with recent cleanup decisions elsewhere in Universal Blue. We don't want every possible image combination; we want a few purpose built images.

  • Guardians, the CentOS Hyperscale SIG has been cooking and are bringing GNOME 48 to CentOS. We'll be testing in a dedicated testing branch so we can bring this to Bluefin LTS. To switch from an existing Bluefin LTS machine (DO NOT REBASE FROM FEDORA-BASED BLUEFINS): sudo bootc switch ghcr.io/ublue-os/bluefin:lts-testing --enforce-container-sigpolicy We'll be revving fast and hard in this branch so we're looking for people to file issues, there's some parity ones being filed already: https://github.com/ublue-os/bluefin-lts/issues No timeline as to when this will merge into main, and no dx or nvidia at this time.

  • Hello there stargazers, it's time for some new updates! This time, we are releasing Aurora based on Fedora 42 for all users! It is now available now in all stable channels, so go update and enjoy a fresh new kernel and some other goodies. What is Aurora? Aurora is an operating system for your computer that wants to get out of your way. It wants to be your "ultimate productivity workstation". It is designed to be for you and to empower you by providing a delightfully curated KDE desktop experience. Aurora :stable is our flagship product so-to-say, giving you the newest desktop experience powered by KDE and Fedora. It uses the Fedora CoreOS Kernel and therefore follows it's CoreOS release schedule, providing a relaxed kernel upgrade pace of 2-3 weeks for every new version.

  • Hello stargazers, we have some exciting news to bring to you today. We are releasing Aurora 42 into the wild for all people who rock the :latest tag for their installed Aurora. People who are on the normal stable branch will continue to rock Fedora 41 until we let it loose to your machines too! You won't notice a big difference going from Fedora 41 to Fedora 42 since KDE is on Version 6.3 on both of those releases, you just get an updated kernel and other system packages. The release trains currently look like this: Here's the current lay of the land:

  • Guardians, today Bluefin GTS switched its base from Fedora 40 to Fedora 41. The team has been using F41 based builds throughout the last cycle, and we feel it's mature and ready to serve you over the next six months. GNOME 47 is a banger, and I think you'll dig it. We say goodbye to F40, it has served us well! You'll receive this update during your next update window, or you can run an update manually. Here's the major Fedora release information: Fedora Magazine: What's new in Fedora Workstation 41 GNOME 47 release notes What is Bluefin GTS?

  • Hi all, This is just quick informative one regarding F42 betas and some future stuff. You can read Jorge's post which covers lot of stuff and no need to repeat them here. F42 based Aurora https://github.com/ublue-os/bluefin/pkgs/container/aurora/382326788?tag=beta We have today enabled Fedora 42 based betas of Aurora images, so come and consume. Just to note that there are still missing pieces (like some akmods etc) but things will improve over time once we near the looming launch of Fedora 42.

  • Hey ya'll, we're about to head into conference season so I thought I'd do a quick rollup for you before the team starts on F42 work. Most of these things are infrastructure and project related and won't have a visible impact on your desktop or OS. Don't worry we have other exciting things for that coming down the pipeline! These updates brought to you by Tulip, P5, M2, and bsherman. Repo Consolidation Config -> Packages We've been doing a poor job historically of reviewing across so many repositories, so we did some consolidation. The ublue-os/config repo has been consolidated here:
