# DOING IT BY HAND
In this resource page you will be working with Jordan to do a little hand-drawn animation using one of the following options:
* "Flipaclip," a free app available in both the [Google Play store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vblast.flipaclip&hl=en_US) and [the App store](https://apps.apple.com/au/app/flipaclip-cartoon-animation/id1101848914)
* [procreate](https://procreate.art/) for iPad ($10) or iPhone($5)
* pen or pencil and paper (and photos)
If you complete an animation using this resource page, feel free to send it to us at [media@learninglab.xyz](mailto:media@learninglab.xyz)
## BREAKING IT DOWN
### WITH FLIP A CLIP
Here is a super short video taking you through the most basic process of creating a frame by frame animation and sharing it as a gif. Note that in this video I intentionally draw each frame by hand to give my little monster some extra life. This app totally lets you duplicate and edit your previous drawng too though, whic can offer a more efficient approach, especially if your subject is more complex.
### WITH PROCREATE
Procreate is insanely intuitive, so the best approach is probably to give yourself a little time to dive in and start exploring. If you want a bit more direction, check out this pretty great beginner tutorial video that takes you through the process of using layers and simple masks to create an illustration with a simple animated feature. It is less focused on the actual frame by frame animation, but its got a few tips and tricks to check out.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ai4mw9DGeZA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
### WITH PAPER ETC
for this you simply draw out your frames on paper and upload an image that you would then edit into multiple frames to create a short animation. you can even use your phone to do the editing by duplicating and cropping/resizing the image. Then upload to a site like giphy to turn it into an animated gif.
