## Winter 2024 Map Guidelines __________ ### Expectations **Our greatest issue last year, in regards to mapping, was the deadline.** **Any and all mapping contributions will be frozen 1 week before the event, major contributions will be frozen 2 weeks ahead of this date** **If you have signed up for a map, and for any reason, just contact Cheshify or Riggle (@Event Lead) and request that your segment be changed to someone else. You don't need to explain yourself.** ___________ ### Design The theme we are aiming for is a Wild-West aesthetic with a hint of Space Western a-la Cowboy Bebop. I'm imagining a large central street with general stores, saloons, a sheriff's office, a spaceport, and some nasty cybernetics chop shop. Think of a rural western town where each shop has a porch, the ground is sandy with patches of dead foliage. Buildings are made of wood, brick, sandstone, and rusty metal. Some good points of reference would be Red Dead Redemption 2, The Mandalorian, Cowboy Bebop, and classic western movies. We'll have four arenas, I think is best. ### Common Map Errors General mistakes that happen all the time. #### Stairs There exist two variants. - Structure variants are used to bring people up/down z-levels. These will block people from moving if there is not multi-z connection and should not be used for decoration - Tile variants are for decoration, these do not move you anywhere #### Loot Should NOT be able to interfere with the event. - Hellfire cans / other items that can possibly destroy the floor is not okay, since they can be used to get into restricted areas - Things that incentivize the spectators to cause more destruction than the toolbox can draw attention away from the actual matches, bombs or instagib rifles - Nothing stupid like flashdarks, and instruments, that can just be used to spam noises or visuals #### Turfs Some turfs can come without the proper gasmix, and this can cause issues with breathing. If you're unsure, go into the variables of a tile and check initial_gasmix #### Overcrowding If you have to decorate an area, try to avoid visual clutter. Places should be full and vibrant, but not clogged with too many decorations/fluff objects that it distracts from the overall area.
