# Territory Control 2 Wrench Tournament Rulebook 1.0 ## Table of content: [TOC] ## Introduction: *Territory Control 2* introduces a lot of interesting mechanics revolving around building, freeing itself from the traditionnal grid block placement and introducing instead a more flexible system allowing for slopes, round shapes and material meshing together, making the game look more organical and natural.
The sequel also introduces new challenges for builders. In fact, building materials have different building means that are logical with their nature. For example straight wood planks need to be placed lines by lines as if you were placing planks one by one. Stone bricks, however, have to be placed square by square, as if you were placing bricks one after the other. Finally, concrete has to be poured on top of other materials framing it.
With this new aesthetics and these new challenges, it is without doubt that building now has a new level of craftmanship and artistic skill expression waiting to be unleashed which is why the TC2 Wrench Tournament came to be.
This document aims to settle the core rules of the Wrench Tournament but each version of the tournament will have its own set of rules specifying the time limits of differents phases, required themes of builds if there's one, preset gears, ect...
![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/HyhXE4fPp.png "Nostalec eastern building by TFlippy")
*Nostalec* Eastern Building by TFlippy ## Unfolding: The Wrench Tournament is an individual building tournament. Individual contestants will compete against each other's by building something that will be rated on three main criterias by a jury. The tournament is divided in three main phases: The Preliminary phase, The Build phase and the Judging phase. ### Judging Criterias: Each jury will rank three main criterias on a scale from 1 to 10. The sum of the ratings will give the overall rating of a build. The player with the best overall rating becomes the title of holder of the Wrench Tournament. In case of a tie between two overall ratings a public vote is held to determine the winner. **Beauty:** The quality of being pleasing and attractive, especially to look at:
"This is an area of outstanding natural beauty."
"He believes that beauty comes from within."
"The piece of music he played had a haunting beauty."
BEAUTY | English meaning - *Cambridge Dictionary*
Concretely the building will be judged in its overall aesthetic and sense of details. If the building is pleasant to see and explore. **Originality:** The quality of being special and interesting and not the same as anything or anyone else:
"We were impressed by the originality of the children's work."
BEAUTY | English meaning - *Cambridge Dictionary*
Originality is a broad criteria that encompasses the originality of the idea, the originality of the execution, the originality of the materials used, ect..
**Durability:** According to its Steam page Territory Control 2 is "A 2D multiplayer sandbox game revolving around industry, innovation, factions, combat and emergent gameplay. Design factories, customize tools and weapons, fight or trade with other players or get viciously murdered by an angry badger."
Combat is a big part of the game and this is why the wrench tournament also judge the durability of the building. The durability will be evaluated by a simple trial. A team of 3 other contestants will raid the building of the defendant with limited supplies and preset loadouts and the defendant will have to defend their build as long as possible. The rating of this criteria is relative to what the builder built. ### Tournament phases: **Premilinary phase:**
During the Premilinary phase each contestants are announced and presented to the other contestants, the jury and the spectators. contestants are randomly assigned a map where they can build and are asked to spawn inside the world. They are not allowed to build during this time but they are allowed to explore the area to get a grasp of what the map looks like. **Building phase:**
Once the building phase has started contestants are allowed to build and destroy within their assigned map. The contestants have infinite ressources and editor mode at their disposal to build anything they'd like to present to the jury. This building phase has a [X] (defined by edition rules) time limit. The build is required to have an accessible by foot flag. During the phase the host or recorder of the tournament is allowed to ask questions to the contestants to learn a bit more about them and what they're building. Once the building phase stops the contestants are required to stop building. **Judging phase:**
During the judging phase, the jury along all the contestants spawn on the first map. The jury along the other contestants are allowed to explore the build but they are not allowed to edit, build, or destroy anything. While the jury are rating the first two criterias the host prepares a Forward Operating Base for the attackers with preset loadouts. Depending on the build more gears, vehicles and artillery can be allowed to the attackers. Once the jury is finished rating the build on the first two criterias the next [X] (defined by edition rules) contestants in the list gear up for the attack and start whenever the timer starts. The durability trial stops whenever the attackers succeed to destroy the flag.
Once the jury is done judging a build the jury and the contestants move to the next map and the cycle continues. ## Base Rules * Contestants are expected sportsmanship and can be disqualified if they're being unsportsmanlike. * Contestants are expected to respect the other contestants, the spectators and the jury * The jury is expected to judge fairly on the criterias defined by the rulesand. * The jury is expected to respect the contestants during their commentary. * Contestants are only allowed to build, move, destroy and spawn items inside their assigned map during the build phase. * Contestants are not allowed to build, move, destroy and spawn items inside of their assigned map during the durability trial. * Contestants are not allowed to build, move, destroy and spawn items outside of their assigned map regardless of the phase. * Contestants are not allowed to have editor mode on outside of the building phase. * Contestants are not allowed to take credit for a build pre-existing on a map. * Builds must have a faction flag.
