# Narrative Playtest 1 ###### tags: Demesne Expansion ## Intro Over the last 5 years, a cluster of Pan-Arctic Compact colony worlds in the Novigrad system have seen remarkable growth and self-sufficiency. The trio of world occupying the "goldilocks" zone have finished a bioengineering campaign to seed simple biota and algae into the terrain and oceans, which are slowly offsetting the need for imports of live soil and foodstuffs. The soon-to-be breadbasket of the sector is promising to give rise to new settlements and resource extraction operations throughout the budding system. This has come at a cost, however. Success means more scrutiny, and the pseudo-libertarian lifestyle enjoyed by colonists is becoming eroded by the PAC's new Governor General, Nikolas Takahara. Subscribing to the theory of socialist-style directed economics, Takahara has spent his tenure disrupting the growing status quo, with mixed success. The failures and mismanagment sprinkled in with adequate results has caused a minor rebellion to break out on the world of Samanovsk, which holds the system's Tachyon Gate. You are part of that rebellion. ## Suggested Character Hooks * You or someone you love has been forced to ration their foodstuffs to survive after their algae farm couldn't get the necessary chemical additives. You hold the Governor responsible. * A bar you frequented was forced to shut down as the Governor's economic policy forbade "entertainment foods" from being grown or imported. Whether it's alcoholism or plain libertarianism, you took up arms to get this foreign upstart out of your colony. * Governor Takahara outsted you from a cushy administrative position, and left you out in the cold. Rebels took you in, and traded your knowledge of the inner workings of government for new, more violent skills. ## The Mission You're a part of a cell procuring arms from a smuggler bringing them in through the Tachyon Gate. You and your team are supposed to meet him in the market to arrange the hand-off of goods in a rebel-controlled warehouse on the outskirts of the port. PAC Security patrols the area, and you know at least one of your team has a record, so it's just as important that your team dodges the random ID checks as it is for you to meet your contact.
