# 00. About Szu-Ting Kuo 郭思廷 ###### tags: `CV` Hey, it's Szu-Ting ['s&#650;t&#618;&#331;] here ("z" not pronounced when speaking, for some reasons). I go by 郭思廷 in Mandarin Chinese. I am a Taiwanese experimental rock mechanicist and am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at [Department of Earth Sciences, National Central University (NCU), Taiwan](https://www.gep.ncu.edu.tw). Previously I was a PhD candidate at [Center for Tectonophysics](https://tectono.tamu.edu/) and [Department of Geology and Geophysics](https://geoweb.tamu.edu/), Texas A&M University. I received a master's degree in [Geosciences from National Taiwan University (NTU)](http://web.gl.ntu.edu.tw/ENG/) and a bachelor's degree in Geosciences with a minor in Chemical Engineering. Understanding structural characteristics of **plate convergent boundaries** excites me. I pin my research within the spectrum of geohazard-related studies and will dedicate efforts to understand physical processes that control strength of plate boundary faults in subduction zones, which are responsible for devastating hazards such as large earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes eruptions. My research focuses on hydromechanical properties of fault zone materials. I conduct **triaxial deformation experiments** on sediments recovered from the **Nankai subduction zone** (offshore SW Japan; *c.f. [IODP NanTroSEIZE](http://www.jamstec.go.jp/chikyu/e/nantroseize/index.html)*) and rocks collected from the **Chimei fault** (onshore E Taiwan). I foresee that the outcomes of my research will improve our understanding of the controls on mechanical behaviors of the megathrust earthquakes. *Interested in learning more about my experience and research?
