# Panch Kedar
The Panch Kedar are five sacred Shiva temples in the Garhwal mountains, all associated with the Pandavas' penance after the Kurukshetra war. According to tradition, Shiva submerged into the earth as a bull; different parts of his divine body emerged at five locations. Kedarnath (the hump, 3,583 m) is the most important. Tungnath (the arms, 3,680 m) is the world's highest Shiva temple. Rudranath (the face) requires a 24 km trek through forests and bugyals. Madhyamaheshwar (the navel, 3,497 m) is a remote shrine in a stunning high-altitude meadow. Kalpeshwar (the matted hair) is the only one open year-round. Completing all five yatra takes 2-3 weeks on foot.
