# DoBA Statement #001 ##### From: President TacticalBlue66 ##### To: Mayor, City councilmembers, and employees ##### Subject: Recent events #### Start of Statement To whom this may concerns, I want to address some recent concerns brought to my office and other concerns about this office. First, let me say I am grateful for ElloNT entrusting me with this position. I know he did not want to give me a position, but he did and I am greatful. Since my short time `beginning in this office on August 13th, 2022`, I have had the ability to set up our new policies, hire new staff, and actually have the Department of Business Affairs running unlike how it was the previous few months. In the past `11 days` we have made the following accomplishments; 1. Established the new business guidelines These guidelines are made with business feedbacks, and every policy is voted on by the entire business community. 2. Created the Employement Appeals Board The Business Affairs Bylaw mandated the creation of the Employment Appeals Board which we have successfully done. 3. Set up the Office of Licensure Issuance They have fully set up the licenses for businesses and handling renewals. 4. Hired new staff 5. Actively working with business owners to make new policies, loosen restrictive policies, and we are building new disiplinary action provisions If everyone is happy with all my decisions, then I would not be where I am today. I am working to the best of my ability to ensure policies are followed, but also employees have rights as well. People often mention that my policies go overboard, but did you know the Employement Rights Bylaw does not apply to businesses? When their are not business laws governing them at all, it is the responsibility for me to ensure the public, employees, and the employers are protected. I know some of you may be mad, or frustrated but things cannot happen overnight. Everyone will not be happy. I want to also address that I am not always right. I want to always here what my employees have to say, and the ideas you have. So far, I have gotten exactly two DMs, from the same person with a complaint or suggestion and I have actually done exactly what they suggested or fixed what their complaint was. `Please send me them, I want to know what to improve.` Now to address three major concerns; 1. The termination of funkyfan12 I was the one who made the decision to terminate funkyfan12 because he had been held in contempt, he was acting in the capacity of board while on AL, openly disrespecting me, and then trying to destroy the business sector in Vancouver. Following a discussion with the Mayor, he was reinstated until his contempt hearing is held. I want to make it clear, he did violate policies and his termination was justified but this is probably the better way to deal with it. Board of Directors should not get away with policy violations, and trust me they will not. 2. The revocation of Johnny's Subs certification Johnny Subs violated business policies, and it was employees who decided his license should be revoked. The Mayor essentially forced me to reinstate the license, and I am sorry that I did not stand up for the employees more but we did not have updated documents as we should have. With all this happening only `5 days` into my presidency, it was hard to ensure everything was up to date. 3. Too many policies As stated above, we have a duty to protect owners, employees, and the public. We do not serve at the pleasure of business owners and business owners only, we serve everyone. If you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions please reach out. I have only had `2` so far. TacticalBlue66, President
