She can enter and exit the fairy tale land of the book when she reads this book loudly. Ella can choose to enter any scene of the story. ### Scene 2 #### Character 0 : [0 0 0] -> [1 1 1] Ella visits a scene in her favorite story, where a princess deposes her evil uncle, the king, and takes over as the new ruler of the land. To her surprise, the scene does not unfold as it should-- the king sits calmly on the throne, and the princess is nowhere to be found. Disguised as a servant, Ella searches the castle for the princess, but is unable to find her. ### Scene 3 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [1 1 1] Confused, Ella returns to the real world. Not paying attention, she bumps into a girl about her age. They both get to their feet, and Ella realizes she doesn’t know this girl. ### Scene 5 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [1 1 1] The girl apologizes, and says her name is Samantha. Samantha grabs her arm and drags her around a corner so the king can’t see them. Her expression changes, and she explains that she is the princess from the story, and escaped into the real world hoping for a better life, but her past has followed her and she has no choice but to return. ### Scene 8 #### Character 0 : [2 2 2] -> [3 2 3] Ella and Samantha go to the library. Outside, on the grounds, a ruckus is starting as the king demands to know where his niece is. Ella and Samantha return to her story, and meet with a kindly wizard who was to help her overthrow the king. He explains to Ella that reading the book like she did broke a spell that bound the characters within the story, and now they are free to come-and-go just like she is. Recognizing how catastrophic this could be, she asks what can be done. He explains that the spell can be reversed-- but it must be done in two parts, the first outside the story, and the second inside of it. ### Scene 9 #### Character 0 : [3 2 3] -> [4 3 4] The wizard gives the girls the spell. Samantha thanks Ella for showing her what a normal life is like but says that she has to stay inside the book now and look after her people. Ella thanks Samantha for being a good friend and returns to the real world. Back in the library, she is shocked to find the king standing over her aunt, demanding to know where the princess is. ### Scene 10 #### Character 0 : [4 3 4] -> [4 0 4] Ella begins reading the spell. The king turns and tries to stop her, but she keeps reading and he is yanked back into the book. A dozen other characters from assorted stories are likewise yanked through the library and back into the book. Ella finishes reading the spell and helps her aunt to her feet. The two share a shaky laugh, and her aunt says that she should have done a better job explaining why she could not read the book. Ella opens the book one last time and sees that the story has mostly returned to normal—Samantha has read the spell from the inside, the king has been deposed, and Samantha is the new queen. In one illustration, Samantha is winking at the reader. Ella and her aunt return the book to the shelf, vowing to never open it again.
