He also has trouble with bullies, and when is pushed too hard, decides to try and escape his life. ####Hero: Tod ## Plot ### Scene 1 #### Character 0 : [0 0 0] -> [0 0 0] Tod is watching television. As he watches, he has an asthma attack and takes a hit on his inhaler. He hears a car outside, and then his mother comes in. ### Scene 2 #### Character 0 : [0 0 0] -> [1 1 1] Tod’s mother is angry. She tells him that he has been watching television all day and he needs to do something else. They argue, and Tod says that his father-- who died recently-- would have let him watch if he wanted to. The argument escalates, and an angry Tod runs away from home, forgetting his inhaler on the coffee table. ### Scene 3 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [1 1 1] Tod walks down the street and crosses paths with Drake, the neighborhood bully. Drake asks what Tod is so upset about, and Tod says he is running away from home. Drake laughs and pushes him before walking away. ### Scene 4 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [1 1 1] Tod keeps walking until he reaches his friend Steve’s house. Steve is outside playing in his yard, and is excited when he sees Tod. ### Scene 5 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [1 1 1] The two friends talk. Tod says he is running away from home and wants to know if Steve will come with him. Steve says he likes it here and doesn’t want to leave. Tod tells him he is just like everyone else and walks off. ### Scene 6 #### Character 0 : [1 1 1] -> [2 1 2] Tod begins to cry as he walks by himself. Everybody is mean, and he hates his neighborhood. ### Scene 7 #### Character 0 : [2 1 2] -> [2 2 2] Tod hears voices behind him. He turns and sees Drake with another bully. They laugh at him and push him around. They say that he is a big crybaby. ### Scene 8 #### Character 0 : [2 2 2] -> [3 2 3] Tod tries to run, but the bullies won’t leave him alone. They chase him and push him some more. Tod has another asthma attack, and realizes with horror that he does not have his inhaler. He falls to the ground and looks up at the sky as he struggles to breathe. ### Scene 9 #### Character 0 : [3 2 3] -> [4 3 4] The bullies run away, leaving Tod on the ground. A car pulls up just as they are leaving, and Tod’s mother and Steve both get out. Tod’s mother yells at the bullies, and tells Steve to get the spare inhaler from the glove box. ### Scene 10 #### Character 0 : [4 3 4] -> [4 0 4] Tod’s mother helps him use the inhaler, and he hugs her as he gets his breathing under control. He tells her he is sorry for fighting with her and running away, and she says it is okay, that she knows how hard his father’s death has been on him. Steve asks if he wants to play in the park, and Tod’s mother says it is fine as long as he comes home before dark. Tod agrees.
