Agnotology and Epistemological Fragmentation Discussion ## Agnotology Boyd begins her talk by discussing agnotology, which is "the strategic and purposeful production of ignorance." Boyd connects agnotology to today by speaking on technology and its ability to control information based on the hands that hold its power. When Boyd was talking about this, it reminded me of the book *1984* by George Orwell. ![image alt](https://media.newyorker.com/photos/600b1c3fc2d8e97988b833af/master/pass/Rosen-1984.jpg) Boyd states that the conspiracy theories and other false narratives that are spread through the internet are a form of agnotology happening before our eyes. ## Fragmenting Society We learn when listening to Boyd that the internet is the greatest source of information for both young people and people in general. Places like Youtube are a source that many young individuals turn to in order to obtain information. This leads to political and social fragmentation, and the inability to compromise on ideas. ![image alt](https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1375975653007355906/1xWahXfO_400x400.jpg)
