# IGPMS grad meeting
______
* **Introduction**
* its been a while since faculty and students have touched base in this committee, and we wanted to get that restarted. We also wanted to make sure that all students in the broader igpms community are valued and to make sure their voices are not filtered by the committee members we invited everyone
* Address the potential makeup of the students present and why some students do not feel welcome to join
* **Updates from faculty**
* new students officially welcomed to igpms
* The formation of IGPMS DEIW committee... if Nick is there?
* other stuff??
* **Reassessment of the current student committee**
* what were its previous goals (maybe Dave can speak to it)
* What are the goals that the students want from a grad student led group: This is not necessarily meant to be a platform for the replacement or creation of a new group but the start of the discussion
* Do these goals fall under the umbrella of the newly formed IGPMS DEIW?
* how can we achieve those things
* **Discussion of the Black Graduate Students of EEMB letter and the broader Letter to UCSB EEMB Faculty with Demands Toward Racial Equity**
* It has been emailed to students and faculty so everyone should be familiar with it.
* note: we are not entertaining any comments or criticisms about "tone". Do not try and tell another person what they experienced, how they should feel, or how to express their experience
* EEMB may be a seperate grad program than IGPMS but there is overlap between the two and shared problems in IGPMS that need equal attention
* Student concerns about faculty response?
* **LATE ADDITION** via KN:
* edict from ICE that states all international students who are attending schools that are only offering online classes in the Fall must leave the US, or transfer to a school that is allowing in-person instruction
* **How can faculty best help students moving forward**
* **How can students help faculty help students moving forward**
* **Other updates or organizational matters??**
* EEMB grad DEIW committee welcomes all who are interested in joining
* Marks solicitation of input for UNOLS diversity iniatives
* "July 15, 16 where MERAS will have a discussion of BLM with the UNOLS Council as to what UNOLS should do. It would be useful to gain a student perspective."
