# Skills Team Design Brief
**Title and description:**
Editable templates for the Skills team at the Alan Turing Institute
**Goals and objectives:**
We have established a visual identity for the Skills team at the Turing, which provides a recognisable style to apply across all our channels and comms.
To this end, we would like a series of document templates and assets that can be used by any team member - regardless of skill or experience with design tools - to create polished, professional-looking materials.
We may also share templates with collaborators, e.g. e-learning course creators, so these templates will help us to ensure a consistent style and level of quality.
This would mean that all assets should be standard file types, and templates should be editable using standard Microsoft programmes. In some cases this will not be possible (e.g. for video assets), so templates that are usable with Adobe products would be the second choice.
## **Audience:**
These assets will be used for a wide range of campaigns, training courses and communications.
Audiences are generally academics (PhD students and post-docs), researchers and professionals from various industries who have an interest in building skills related to data science and artificial intelligence.
Our primary audience is located in the UK, but we expect some international users to engage as well.
Some **keywords** that may be helfpul to draw inspiration from:
- skills / education / learning / teaching
- open access / open training / open source
- students / researchers / industry practitioners / educatos
- community building / user communities
- placements / internships / fellowships / knowledge exchange
- networking / cohort building / events & conferences
- online learning / course certifications / discussions
- national or UK-wide skills / skills policy / government connection
- partnerships / collaborations
## **Messaging and tone:**
We want to communicate to our audience that what we provide is high quality, trustworthy and reliable. In addition, we want to clearly communicate our innovative and exciting opportunities that are appealing for a range of audiences to suit academics, industry folks and public sector employees.
## **Assets and deliverables:**
:::warning
See individual feedback points under each deliverable
:::
* **Zoom background**: 1920px by 1080px
* **Banner for EventsForce**: 1150x250
* **Newsletter banner** with editable text fields

* **PPT Slide Deck**: 16:9 aspect ratio
`This will be used for team presentations AND for instructors to present course content.
It should include templates for:`
- Cover slide with title, author and image
- Section divider slide
- Header + text + image slide
- Two column content slide
- Layout for header + text-heavy content
- Layout for header + panoramic/landscape image + text
- Ending slide
:::warning
o Sometimes grant conditions require funder logo (and acknowledgement) and/or collaborator logos to be visible from the off. How easy is it to add?
o Could we have an extra slide where person icons (rounded, up to 5 with text box underneath) can be easily dropped in is useful and more in keeping with Comms approach.
o Can the final slide allow to the heading to be editable too (the skills at the turing text)?
:::
* **Headed Word document**: A4 size Turing guide styled headers (see below) and placeholder text. To be used for business cases, call documents (like [this](https://www.turing.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2023-11/2024-25_enrichment_scheme_call_document.pdf)), reports

- Please note: The bold font inside that example file is actually wrong (it was a converted back from pdf to word and the formatting is buggy). Make sure to follow the brand guides for fonts.
- Go with the cover page as created already, and the contents of the doc should be aligned with the Turing template. Mishka to source the template
:::danger
o Could we have the option to swap the gradient picture for a different one that would be report / document specific?
o Could we add a free text box so that we can add ‘TEMPLATE: Turing Research Fellowship’ etc so that the project it deals with is clear from the off. Perhaps that would fit in the bottom right corner.
:::
* **Announcement leaflet**: A5 size
`This one is a bit vague but should be A5 document that at least includes Skills banner, space for up to one paragraph of text, and at least one image`
:::danger
o Looks good but the bars above the heading should only be for the heading title (eg if one column, then the bar should be one column width
:::

* **Editable template** (Canva or PPT) **for Twitter / LinkedIn adverts**: 1200 x 628 pixels
* **Report ‘wrapper’ front and back page**: A4 size
* **Email footer** with text "Building Skills for the Future": 600×100-200 px OR use the newsletter heading size
:::warning
o Can we make these editable?
o I like both options BUT the sizes don’t look as others I’ve seen (longer and thinner). Emma could you advise please? I wonder if the sizes are swapped between the email footer and the email banner? To me they look like the other one should.
:::
* **Video title/end screens**: 1920x1080px (16:9)
(Please note that some of these assets may be combined if the same template could be used for multiple purposes)
:::danger
o Can we add more free text boxes to add relevant things such as the course instructor, course title, date etc?
o Can we have a version with the photo here too so we can compare between the two? Not sure if you have a copy already with the iconography, and if not Emma can maybe share a copy (I’m struggling to find one!)
:::
* **Project-specific thumbnails** (16:9) with keywords to support asset design
::: warning
Overall great but could we issue different icons for the different keywords? We need editable files in both PPT/ Word etc and InDesign. Also keep just 3 icons (most of them have 4)
:::
**Data Study Group**: hackathon, problem solving, programming

- remove mug & pen
**Enrichment Scheme**: collaboration, independence, methodology

- collaboration should be depicted with some humans engaging with one another
- methodlogy is good
- what does both the book and the looking glass try to depict?
**Turing Internship Network**: placements, industry experience, knowledge exchange

- remove mug and pen
- could we add a student hat or something to show working in industry?
**Turing Research Fellows Scheme**: research, employment, project work

- change title to Turing Research Fellowship
- swap stacked squares with something about connecting across disciplines (puzzle?)
**Connections Initiative**: students, community building, networking

- swap wheel for student hat
**Educators Programme**: educators, community building, resources

- swap book for icon depicting humans / cohort / community building
- remove wheel
