The British Lottery Gaming Corporation (BCLC) has confirmed that Bingo Hall will be closed after April 21 this year. The closure of the Newton Community Gaming Center is the result of Gateway's intention to relocate its gambling facilities to Delta, transforming them into millions of casino resorts. Not long ago, BCLC chose Delta as its preferred host for the South Fraser Casino. In 2014, BCLC announced that it would relocate the slot machines of the Newton Community Gaming Centre, and since then the gambling house has only been offering bingo games. In September, BCLC announced that Gateway Casino & Entertainment was ready to relocate its gambling house in Surrey to Delta Town and Country Inn after receiving preliminary approval. Following the announcement, Gateway wasted no time submitting an application to build a casino in South Delta. Gateway's casino project has received the necessary zoning and public approval. The company behind the project described the wide range of economic benefits casinos can bring to the city to win over local residents. Set the stage for Gateway's casino proposal The consultation process has already begun with three public information meetings in the book. Surprisingly, locals had mixed feelings about Gateway's casino offer. Casino supporters were excited to hear that the city would soon be the host of the Premier Casino. Casino opponents, on the other hand, praised concerns related to the negative social costs associated with gambling. The future of Gateway's casino proposal remains ambiguous. Assuming Gateway is approved to build a full-fledged casino in Delta, the company will either own or lease the facility on behalf of BCLC. BCLC spokesperson Anjee Gill said Gateway's location lease contract would expire this year and the company had already taken steps to transfer employees to other properties close to the Newton facility. The property features a wealth of gambling options, including slot machines and game tables, and for non-gambling activities, it features two restaurants, a bar, banquet space, and a luxury hotel. With the transfer of the Newton license, Delta Casino is to boost the city's local economy and lower unemployment. Philip Aguirre, director of the Newton Business Improvement Association, told Now Leader that the relocation of the Gateway's gambling house is intended to have a negative economic impact on the city and city officials should soon present development strategies.
