In Macau, casino operator Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited reportedly accepted rival Win Macau Limited's decision last week to announce pay increases for all non-management employees. Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited said the pay improvement applies to workers within City of Dreams Macao, Altira Macao, and Studio City Macao venues. The Hong Kong-based company also declared that these employees will receive an additional 'one-month discretionary bonus' before the celebration begins each year to mark Chinese New Year. A statement from Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited reportedly stated, "Melco has always considered employees a top priority for the company." While the report did not say how many employees should benefit from the annual wage increase, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited explained that wages will improve by an average of 2.5% to 8.1% starting in April, with people earning up to $24,000 annually benefiting around $74 per month. Also, workers who are now taking home above this threshold have reportedly declared that their monthly pay packets will improve by nearly $5 a month. Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited, reportedly said, "The Melco employees are our strongest asset, and as a heartfelt thank you for their unwavering dedication, contribution, and loyalty, we are pleased to announce discretionary bonuses and competitive pay increases to our employees." Who died from injuries sustained on an escalator walkway at the Suncoast Hotel & Casino in Northwest Las Vegas.

The lawsuit claims Suncoast owner Boyd “negligently, carelessly, and recklessly maintained and allowed a dangerous condition to exist.” On July 26, 2021, Roberto Bernales, who used a walker, and his wife, Vivienne de Jesus-Bernales, stepped onto the escalator, but a “hump” on the walkway caused Bernales to fall backward, hitting his head, according to the lawsuit. Bernales’ shirt then became entangled on the moving walkway, and he was “continuously dragged” for several minutes, causing deep cuts on the back of his head, reads the suit. De Jesus-Bernales called for help, pleading with staff to stop the walkway, but it “continued to operate with Roberto stuck at the end.” Bernales suffered severe injuries, which caused his death on Aug. 3, 2021, per the filing.
