# Eden Fractal biweekly cycle structure
- **Version:** 1.0
- **Created:** 2026-01-09
## Overview
The general idea is to have both Respect game and Town Hall events every week, but alternate between between the order these events: one week we start with Respect game and then Town Hall events, and the next week we start with Town Hall events and then Respect game.
This structure also reserves space for an in-between event structure (e.g.: [Synchronous Respect Trees](https://www.notion.so/Synchronous-Respect-Tree-game-29598113d82b8044a5e4f622b02aeda3)) and space as well as a process to change it.
## Specification
### Definitions
* **Discussion-first event (DF event)**: events where we first focus on discussions and proposal passing (Town Hall events) and then play Respect game.
* **Respect-first events (RF event)**: events where we first focus on Respect game and then on discussions and proposal passing (Town Hall events).
* **Contribution week**: week between **DF** and **RF** events. This is a time friendly for working on contributions individually or in smaller groups.
* **Legislative week**: week between **RF** and **DF** events. This is a time oriented towards discussion and building consensus.
* **Legislative week structure**: community process / rhythm during legislative week.
### Rules
1. After DF event, have a RF event next week;
2. After RF event, have a DF event next week;
3. During discussion time of RF event, use a [Eden+Fractal](https://github.com/sim31/frapps/blob/ff6b3602c12da1e4ed7a6fbae87f3ed8234056fc/concepts/eden%2Bfractal.md) process to pass the legislative week structure;
4. Authority of Eden+Fractal process during RF events is limited to passing legislative week structure.
5. Implement current legislative week structure during legislative week.
## Notes
* No changes to Eden+Fractal process;
* Delegates are only elected during DF events and serve 8 weeks.
* Proposals can be passed only during Town Hall of DF events;
* Eden+Fractal process can obviously override any of this;
* Scope of legislative week structure has to be limited to legislative week;
## Rationale
* **This leaves space for iterating on legislative week structure:** cannot comfortably change structure if you're in it. A week in between implementations of legislative structure leaves space for reflection and improvements.
* **Balances benefits of DF and RF events:** RF events prioritize Respect game and not everyone stays for the discussion. DF events prioritize discussion and not everyone stays for the Respect game. In the first part of the event participants are more focused.
* **Provides space for convergence as well as divergence [^1]:** community can focus on their own projects, coordinate in smaller groups during contribution week and legislative week allows synthesis of everyone's progress.
