Every morning when I wake up I do a series of physiotherapy stretches to rehabilitate and improve my conditioning for long distance running. I don't particularly enjoy these but they're the first thing I do every morning, because my brain on autopilot navigates me to the floor and just starts doing them. I created this habit by rewarding myself afterwards everymorning with a teaspoon of my kryptonite, peanut butter.
Cue, Reponse, Action, Reward.
Wake up, Anticipate reward, Stretch, Peanut Butter.
Software programming yourself to do things that are good for you but not particularly appealing.
