{%hackmd theme-dark %} # Main Page / Primer Welcome to Shiptest 13! More specifically, Shiptest 13's HackMD Lore Wikibook. This is a collaborative project that aims to create lore in a readable and uncluttered format. Large population centers and major governments are far off, both in terms of distance and influence. How long you'll be here is up to you --- were you born in the edge of space, or are you stuck here until you find yourself someplace closer to home?* The year is 504 FSC -- the time since the formation of the Solar Confederation. Seven years have passed since the devastating set of conflicts known now as the **Corporate Wars** came to a stop in 497 FSC. The monolithic megacorporation Nanotrasen and the loose coalition of the Syndicate both ended up bruised and bloodied after eighteen years of fighting (c. 479 FSC). As the dust settled, what was left were shattered worlds, orbital debris and broken wrecks floating through the vast expanse of Nanotrasen's territory. ## Where Am I? You are in the remains of Nanotrasen's territory. Once an endless source of wealth and resources for the company, all that is left here now are ruins. Though some are trying to pick up the pieces of the frontier, most are here to try to take what they can for themselves. ## What's Happening in the World Right Now? Nanotrasen's grasp over the galactic economy has loosened considerably, with smaller corporations gladly taking a slice of the pie. Nanotrasen still officially holds claims over vast regions of space, but it no longer has the strength it needs to enforce those claims. [storage]: <> (, even though they have no real reason to be syndicated anymore and nobody is sure what the hell they're supposed to be working towards as a group, if they still consider the Syndicate to truly exist._ The Syndicate has dissolved into its own separate factions, and those factions drifted apart into individual crews, often acting in the name of the "Syndicate". This is despite the fact that there is no real reason to be syndicated anymore, and nobody is sure what they're supposed to be working towards as a group, assuming they still consider the Syndicate to exist.) With Nanotrasen's strength and power diminished, it is unable to act as a common enemy. The members of the Syndicate slowly drifted apart and now act for their own interests rather than to support their once-unifying cause of truncating Nanotrasen. In contrast, everyone that did not live in the most affected areas is quite relieved that the Corporate Wars have come to a stop. The world is slowly rebuilding, and life for everyone is returning to something calmer and more stable. Things are okay, for now, but they could easily relapse into an even more brutal conflict if the world was to be nudged in the wrong direction.
