# Kalixcis Timeline
## Kalixcian Dating System: Historical Eras
Rather than picking one specific year to be "year zero" and making the years before it count down and those after it count up, on Kalixcis, as far as history can remember, time has been counted with a system of Eras. Whenever a new Era begins, the year number resets to 0, with the words Current Era (or CE) in front of it, while the previous Era is given a new name that encompasses what defined that era. The exact naming of each Era is typically a subject of major debate among historians, at least for the first few decades after the end of said Era.
For convenience, this timeline has each date listed with both the date using the Kalixcian Eras Calendar, and the same date in SolGov's Federal Standard Calendar.

## The Timeline
### Creation Era
The Creation Era is the term used for the Era in which Kalixcis was first formed and which includes all time before the emergence of sapient life on Kalixcis. The exact length of the Era, and thus final year, is unknown and subject to debate.
- CE 0 | ~AAA 7,000,000,000 | **[[Creation of Kalixcis]]** - According to leading scientists, this is around the time when the planetary body now known as Kalixcis was formed from asteroids and space dust orbitting the binary system Bezuts.
- ~CE 2,000,000,000 | ~AAA 5,000,000,000 | **[[Arrival of Organic Life]]** - Though mainly an estimate made by leading Kalixcian paleontologists, the year of the arrival of organic life on Kalixcis, most likely in the form of microbial single-celled organisms delivered via an ice comet. Certain major sects of the Astrometry Initiative, the official state religion of the Zohil Explorat, believe that this comet originated from the Blueflame System.
### Prehistoric Era
The Prehistoric Era is the term used for the Era between the first signs of Sarathi life on Kalixcis and the date of the oldest known documents found by archeologists. Thus, pre-history.
- PE 0 | ~AAA 5,000,000 | **[[Earliest Evidence of Sarathi Life]]** - The oldest Sarathi fossil found on Kalixcis dates back to around five thousand and five hundred years ago, and as such this is considered around when Sarathi life originated on Kalixcis and thus the beginning of the Prehistoric Era. Due to the way in which Elzuose corpses decompose, it is impossible to properly determine how long their species has existed, so Sarathi are used as the baseline for the Prehistoric Era.
- PE 4,990,000 | AAA ~10,000 | **[[The Dragon's Fang]]** - The estimated date of founding of the oldest discovered ruins in the Dragon's Fang, a region in the Zale Peninsula on the continent of Gezena which is known for being extremely fertile and hypothesized to be the location where farming was first discovered by both Elzuose and Sarathi.
### Lost Era
The Lost Era begins with the date on which the oldest known Kalixcian written document is estimated to have been written, and is the beginning of written history. However, the name "Lost Era" refers to how, despite the existence of writing at the time, very few historical records from it actually exist, due to some sort of ancient Cataclysm at the end of the Era. Exactly what the Cataclysm was is unknown, all this is known for sure is that it caused the collapse of all civilizations from this Era and one of its side effects, though not the Cataclysm itself, was a massive worldwide famine.
- LE 0 | AAA 6307 | **[[Earliest Known Record]]** - This is the estimated year in which the oldest known Kalixcian historical record was written. The record itself, after having been translated, appears to be a breeder's certificate for a Gezenan Drakeling, a common house pet among Kalixcians even today. It was found in the ruins of an ancient settlement in the Zale Peninsula. It is the oldest evidence of written language on Kalixcis, and as such, is the beginning of written history and the Lost Era.
- LE 353 | AAA 5954 | **[[Battle of Grastix Pass]]** - Though of very little relative importance to modern history, mainly due to the effects of the Cataclysm, this the oldest known *historical* record. That being, the oldest record about a major historical event created by a recorder working for one of the nations involved. The record is a complete description of the events of an ancient battle between two nations in southern Zohil. Very little is known about either side, or why they were fighting.
- LE 2853-2868 | AAA 3435-3420 | **[[The Kalixcian Cataclysm Begins]]** - What surviving records exist, as well as archeological finds from the time period, indicate that the Kalixcian Cataclysm was a disaster of apocalyptic proportions that happened approximately 4,000 years ago and which caused every single civilization on Kalixcis at the time to collapse. From what pieces can be put together, the Cataclysm, as well as the famine that followed it, lasted 15 years and wiped out around half of the planets population, most from starvation in the years following the initial disaster. Exactly what the Cataclysm was, or what caused it, is currently a subject of heated debate among archeologists.
### Ancient Era
The Ancient Era begins immediately after the Kalixcian Cataclysm, with the reconstruction of civilization by the survivors. It goes on until the foundation of the Zale Empire approximately five hundred years later.
- AE 0 | AAA 3420 | **[[Civilization Re-Emerges]]** - The ruins of the first Post-Cataclysm city, founded just north of the Pale Ring on Gezena, along the western coast of the continent, date back to this year.
- AE 125 | AAA 3295 | **[[Foundation of Zale]]** - The City-State of Zale, which would eventually go on to become the most prolific empire of ancient Kalixcis, was founded in AE 125. It was founded in the Zale Peninsula, on the eastern coast of Gezena.
- AE 283-284 | AAA 3137-3136 | **[[The First Kaltak War]]** - The City-State of Zale manages to achieve a surprising underdog victory in a defensive war against their neighboring rival city-state, the City of Kaltak, who was attempting to conquer them.
- AE 294-296 | AAA 3126-3124 | **[[The Second Kaltak War]]** - After spending ten years building up its forces, Zale invades and successfully conquers Kaltak, as retaliation for the first war. They rename themselves the Kingdom of Zale.
- AE 389 | AAA 3031 | **[[Unification of Zale]]** - After almost a century of warfare, the Kingdom of Zale manages to conquer the entirety of the modern-day Zale Peninsula.
- AE 423-443 | AAA 2997-2977 | **[[First Lihmonan War]]** - The Kingdom of Zale makes contact with the Kingdom of Lihmona, another relatively major power, located on the east coast of Gezena, north of the Zale Peninsula. Unfortunately, contact is not peaceful, and the two nations go to war over an independent city-state on the coast between them. The 20-year war resulted in a Zale victory with them claiming the city-state in question, though they paid a heavy price for it, finally having been matched against an equal.
- AE 473-488 | AAA 2947-2932 | **[[Second Lihmonan War]]** - The Kingdom of Zale goes to war with Lihmona once again, with Zale aiming to conquer all Lihmonan territories along their border. This time, however, due to the efforts of a brilliant Lihmonan general, Zale's armies are decimated and they are forced to end hostilities and relinquish their claims, paying hefty tithes to Lihmona as part of the peace agreement.
