# Colonial Minutemen: Biohazard Assessment and Removal Division
### The Biohazard Assessment and Removal Division:
Created to combat and contain previously-unknown enemies that laid dormant around and below CMM-supported colonies, the Biohazard Assessment and Removal Division works tirelessly to secure the Frontier against non-humanoid threats. Originating from the colony of Stardock, this unconventional company is home to all sorts of folks brave, strong or deranged enough to enlist with them as opposed to the main Corps.
### Structure
The structure of the BARD is similar to that of the traditional Corps, with squads forming companies forming the Division. Alongside the military portion of the Biohazard Assessment and Removal Division, a large contingent of cilivian support staff keeps the Division fed, healthy and supplied, alongside researching the hostile subjects (usually posthumously) in pursuit of equipment better suited to destroying them.
### Ideology
"Hostile, non-sapient xenofauna are not pets, or test subjects, or weapons. They are hostiles at the end of a high-powered scatter laser rifle, and nothing more. Hoorah."
### Operations
The Biohazard Assessment and Removal Division, in its role as disaster-response and rapid exterminators, has considerably less oversight compared to its Corps contemporaries due to its need for autonomy and entirely-unique sort of opponent. Rather than utilizing the ubiquitous P-16s of the traditional Colonial Minutemen, the BARD utilizes equipment such as flamethrowers, laser weaponry and burn chambers to combat their foes. In addition, their research department has devised a variety of means to disable and protect against acid and claws alike, with acid-resistant riot gear and specialized gas grenades capable of draining stamina and chemical capacity alike. Lastly, research is being performed into utilizing the more docile subjects as a means of reinforcing equipment against attack or providing unconventional munitions to the troops. Their non-research arms generally assist in colonization by providing military force to repel antagonistic xenofauna or, rarely, sentient hostiles.
### Culture
The troops of the BARD are a mixed bag, to say the least. While some have a more positive outlook, feeling that there are fewer moral qualms about shooting hostile alien lifeforms with no means of recourse as opposed to shooting their fellow human(oids), others have witnessed the horrors of alien hives and lost far too many to the unyielding xenofauna threat to maintain that sunny perspective. Otherwise, the work attracts big personalities and bigger things to prove, with the traditional military-machismo that accompanies any Corps company.
### Relations
Obviously, as a division of the Colonial Minutemen, they share all faction affiliations and views.
### Timeline
#### 370s:
Zohil colonization initiatives begin. Unbeknownst to the settlers and colony planners alike, many colonies are built on dormant hives of hostile xenofauna.
#### 380s:
Increased pirate activity begins. The beginnings of the Colonial Militia start forming.
#### Early 390s:
The Colonial Militia forms officially, beginning their war with the pirate fleets.
#### Late 390s:
The Colonial Militia, having hit their stride and located sufficient firepower, destroys and scatters the pirate fleets.
#### 400:
The Colonial Militia becomes the Colonial Minutemen, and becomes a power player in the Frontier.
#### Mid 421:
Reports emerge from various colonies almost simultaneously of large unknown masses of xenofauna previously unseen assaulting mineshafts and underground facilities on planets.
#### Late 421:
After several skirmishes, a company of Colonial Minutemen fights a large-scale battle against a hive of hostile xenofauna and is slaughtered with nearly no survivors. Accounts from the few remaining members of the battalion are taken for analysis.
#### 422:
The Unknown Threats Division is formed, a prototypical version of the modern BARD to combat the then-unknown threat.
#### 423:
Attacks continue to mount. The UTD begins developing specialized infantry tactics and equipment for usage by the troops while they continue to hold off infestations where possible.
#### Early 425:
After two more years of stalemate, the UTD finalizes development of the First Xenofauna Combat Arms Manual, alongside an array of effective equipment designed to bring the fight to the xenofauna hives.
#### Mid-Late 425:
With arms and tactical information transported, the first successful hive assault begins, torching the structure and gaining valuable research data for further attacks.
#### 435:
By this time, most of the hives directly near Colonial Minutemen affiliated colonies are destroyed, removing most of the threat associated with the hostile xenofauna threat. In victory, the UTD renames to the Biological Assessment and Removal Division, signifying the now-known threat they have triumphed over.
#### 507:
After over 70 years of successful operation, continually working to stamp out xenofauna warrens and assist in biological disaster response, including disease control. They continue to patrol the Frontier and protect against xenofauna incursion.
