# 5G Overview [TOC] ## The Difference Between 4G and 5G 5G has different focus areas from other generations. While other generations only focused on data rate, 5G has focused on increasing data rate, support massive connectivity for smart city applications, and also increase high reliability and reduce latency (low latency) e.g., for smart driving car. 4G is communication-oriented that designed for a limited number of use cases to optimized the throughput, fixed, and rigid which is different from 5G. 5G is service-oriented because it provides different kinds of services. To support features of different applications, it uses multiple logic networks with slicing technology enablers. ![](https://i.imgur.com/tLLQ8Xa.png) ## 5G Use Cases Three main use cases of 5G consist of eMBB, mMTC, and URLLC. Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) provides faster data rates and significantly greater capacity by keeping communications connected. Downlink speed up to 20 Gbit/s and uplink up to 10 Gbit/s. This speed is needed for video conferencing and games (virtual reality) services. Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) engages and connects billions of devices without human intervention on a scale never seen before. An example of implementing mMTC is a smart city. Ultra-reliable and Low-latency Communication (URLLC) is communication between devices using low latency and high reliability which occurs in real-time device control, industrial robotics, communication between vehicles, and self-car driving. ## Softwarization and Virtualization in 5G There are SDN NFV to softwarization and virtualization of the network in 5G. SDN and NFV together change the traditional networking paradigms. This significant shift in how an operator designs, develops, manages, and delivers products and services bring with it a variety of technological and operational efficiencies. The fundamental concept of Software Defined Networking (SDN) changes the current network design paradigm by introducing network programmability and abstraction. SDN is about separating the network control and data planes. NFV involves the implementation of the network function in software that can run on standard server hardware. NFV enables deployment of virtual network functions (VNFs) as well as network services described as NF Forwarding Graphs of interconnected NFs and endpoints within a single operator network or between different operator networks. --- # Comment Based on what we learned from 5G Overview, we can conclude that with the help of 5G will help humanity move towards a smart ecosystem. Because 5G not only perform and focused for the speed/data rate but also provides different services that will help human for its reliable, low latency, and faster data rates. But for the implementation of 5G, every operator can’t afford to adopt 5G immediately, especially in Indonesia. It needs careful planning so it will not inflict a financial loss to the operator. Moreover, considering the conditions in Indonesia, where even the implementation of 4G has not been comprehensive so that the implementation of 5G is the first time in Indonesia using NSA mode. # Discussion with Team Create grup line and self introduce to each other.
