## Securities

For us to be able to get accurate values on the Metabase Dashboard, we need the formula for:

- Total value of securities

What we're calculating for the total value of securities is actually referred to as "Assets Under Management". This is straight forward for public companies, more complicated for startups. Here are the rules we can use, and calculations:

1. If startup has no SAFEs, Convertibles or Preferred shares:

Number of Shares * Latest Share Price = Total Value of Securities for that company

**NOTE** - if it is priced in NGN, KES, or other African currencies, we need to convert that currency to USD in the final calculations.

2. If a startup has SAFEs or Convertibles, but no preferred shares

Number of Shares * Latest Valuation Cap = Total value of securities for that company

3. If a startup has Preferred Shares, no SAFEs or Convertibles

Number of Shares * Latest Price per Share = Total value of securities for that company
