Schedule

I will be building up our schedule below as we go. Handouts will be linked below as well.

Week 1

Lab (Field) T 9/20 or R 9/22

Lab handout

  • Cable management
  • What is the simplest electrical resistivity measurement (4-electrode Wenner measurements with the SKS-24 electrical resistivity meter)
  • What can an electrical resistivity measurement do for you? (Los Alamos sturcutral geology example on the rolling whiteboard)

Class (F 9/23)

Gaining intuition about the "earth-circuit" idea and the earth as a resistor. DC Circuit Consturction simulator. Resistance vs. resistivity. See the available reading materials on the Electrical Resistivity webpage.

Week 2

Lab (Field) T9/27 or R 9/29

Collect a 1D Wenner Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) data set at the Chorro Creek Dog Leg Reference Profile.

Class (F 9/30)

  • Processing (with EarthImager1D) and interpreting (thinking geologically) the Chorro Creek VES data.
  • A minimal summary of the field data is available on the Data Archive page.

Week 3

Lab (Field) T 10/4 or R 10/6

Collect to 2D Electrical Resistivity Tomography data set on the Chorro Creek Dog Leg Reference Profile. TUE: Dipole-dipole Strong-gradient array. THUR: Schlumberger Inverse array.

Class (F 10/7)

  • EarthImager and 2D Data Processing/Analysis
    • A minimal summary of the field data is now available on the Data Archive page.
  • Array styles
  • Geometric factor

  • Process Pseudo3D Chorro Creek data collected in Fall 2021
  • Discussion: further Chorro Creek Dog Leg survey designs
  • Free time: Work on Field Data Report # 2
