# Field Book
You will need a sturdy field book to document all of the field activities in the course. The field book will be turned in at the end of each field activity (before we leave for campus) for grading.
I recommend you use a new field book just for this course. If you get one that is large enough you can also use it to document notes from class and other discussions.
> Your field book is your most important record of this course.
The "classic" [geological field book](https://www.riteintherain.com/geological-book) can be used (it has nice appendices and knick-knacks, so it's good to get it once), but this is not required. It is nice to have one with pages on which you can define a scale (e.g. a grid).
In the field you will also want to have mechanical pencils, erasers, scale/ruler (inches, cm, etc).
