--- title: Protocol tags: authors-only --- >[name=Dawn H] To combine this with the [how](https://hackmd.io/3AOua1VvQnO_bc4abOEJig) note @L0Q-bdUTRgWH7Z58AYiaNA # SciBeh Vaccine Handbook: Collaboration Roadmap _Note: Many ideas in planning this come from the structure of the [Debunking Handbook paper](https://osf.io/fahs4/)._ This document outlines the objectives of the SciBeh Vaccine Handbook project and sets in place the methodology by which content will be developed and timeline for different stages of the project. ## Purpose of the project The project output is a rapid resource to tackle vaccine hesitancy in the context of COVID-19. Our objective is to provide answers for urgent questions that governments, policy-makers, practitioners, and the public have with regards to combatting vaccine hesitancy. We deliver these answers in two products: 1. A PDF handbook of step-by-step communication recommendations specifically about COVID-19 vaccines for communicators, stakeholders, policy-makers, and the general public. The handbook will summarise the principal variables that drive vaccine uptake generally; cover how those variables can be exploited for COVID-19; what anti-vaxxers do and how they can be managed; how specific misinformation relating to the vaccine can be prebunked and debunked. 4. An online Wiki based on crowd-sourced expert evidence covering different perspectives on the problem. The PDF handbook will contain links to the Wiki for additional resources. The Wiki will be developed in a modular structure, using crowd-sourced expert evidence from different areas (e.g., communications, behaviour, public health, incentives, personality/beliefs). This will allow different contributors to add to sections of a living document without having to revise the standalone handbook. It will be regularly updated to provide the most recent evidence and new resources that emerge over time. ## Target audience The project targets a broad audience, including (but not limited to) governmental health organisations, intergovernmental groups, health practitioners (e.g., GPs), and policy-makers. The handbook is aimed at all types of practitioners, from physicians and nurses to journalists and people in government. The Wiki will provide a wider range of information and resources that these bodies and also members of the public can consult. The precise scope of coverage of the handbook will be determined through the process documented in the next section. The scope of the Wiki will be wider, to allow for broader perspectives on the issue to be captured. These will be added according to the process documentation. ## Process This section documents the process of gathering content for the SciBeh Vaccine Handbook project, specifically the PDF Handbook and accompanying Wiki. ### Project co-ordination This is a [SciBeh](https://scibeh.org) initiative. The `core team` members (see [Table of Contributors and Roles](https://hackmd.io/@scibeh/rJ1UGrCcw#Table-of-Contributors-and-Roles) will be responsible for co-ordinating the project, assigning tasks, and overseeing production and updates of the final outputs (PDF and Wiki). ### Content contribution #### PDF Handbook 1. **Outline of handbook contents.** An outline for the topics to be covered will be set out by the `handbook co-ordinators` in a collaborative document (using Google Docs). This outline will also form the skeleton to begin building the accompanying Wiki. Contributions are requested from: * Authors of key papers and technical reports about vaccine hesitancy. * Participants of the SciBeh hackathon on [combatting COVID-19 misinformation](https://hackmd.io/@scibeh/HkV20LiLv#1-Combatting-COVID-19-misinformation-with-lessons-from-climate-change-denial). Relevant experts interested to contribute to the handbook may also request to join the hackathon group. > [name=Dawn H] Not sure if we've done this—had requests for membership to the COVID hackathon group so thought we might have some. 2. **User feedback.** Based on the proposed outline, user feedback will be sourced from various organisations (e.g., WHO, UNICEF). The feedback will be incorporated into a finalised draft of the outline. > [name=Dawn H] Note: to be more specific here about who is giving feedback when we have details! 3. **Handbook text.** Based on the finalised outline of topics, `handbook authors` drawn from the requested contributors (see point 1) will be assigned to produce sections of content for inclusion. 4. **Finalisation of content.** `Handbook co-ordinators` will review the content prior to finalising for type-setting. #### Wiki 1. **Skeleton outline.** `Wiki co-ordinators` will create a skeleton outline for the Wiki to match that of the handbook. This outline will be in the most basic form individual modules for further resources relating to the respective handbook section. It will also set out a broader concept map proposing modules for wider perspectives related to the topics in the handbook. 2. **Stage 1 content contribution.** To populate the basic Wiki skeleton, `Wiki co-ordinators` will gather an eclectic evidence base by consulting: * SciBeh's [Knowledge Base](https://www.scibeh.org/#kb) * Further links in the cited sources in the handbook * Resources recommended by `handbook authors` * Participants of the SciBeh hackathon on [combatting COVID-19 misinformation](https://hackmd.io/@scibeh/HkV20LiLv#1-Combatting-COVID-19-misinformation-with-lessons-from-climate-change-denial) * A call for relevant evidence and/or authoring contributions to the Wiki will be put out on SciBeh's research discussion reddit ([BehSciResearch](https://www.reddit.com/r/BehSciResearch/)) 3. **Expanded outline.** Through the evidence gathering process, `Wiki co-ordinators` will invite experts to be `Wiki authors`. The purpose is to develop the evidence into user-friendly content. `Wiki authors` will be assigned to produce this content. 4. **User feedback.** `Wiki co-ordinators` will gather feedback from Wiki users through two channels: * Feedback solicited from specific organisations that SciBeh is liaising with: European Commission, OECD, WHO, UNICEF, Robert Koch Institute, UK Cabinet Office. * User polls integrated into the Wiki site. Feedback from these channels will be used to inform the development of modules that address different use cases, and improvements to presentation. > [name=Dawn H] We can be more specific here as to who is targeted for feedback. * Feedback solicited from outreach to academics/researchers. This feedback will be used to inform development of new modules for related topics and disciplines. > [name=Dawn H] We need more detail on how we should do outreach. 5. **Further expansion.** `Wiki co-ordinators` and `Wiki authors` will monitor updates and new resources to be added to relevant modules in the Wiki over the coming months. > [name=Dawn H] We should probably be more specific as to WHICH months we will be focusing on this work ### Product development #### PDF Handbook The handbook will be typeset and produced for distribution after content is finalised. This forms the static version of the handbook, with links to the Wiki for further resources, updates, and developments. #### Wiki > [name=Dawn H] Plan is improved, but more details to be worked out! 1. **Skeleton framework.** The`web design` team will create a Wiki landing page and skeleton framework of module pages to host the links identified in the handbook outline. This will be done in HackMD as the prototype version that accompanies the handbook launch. 2. **Organisation of modules.** The `wiki co-ordinators` will decide how to best structure modules (comprising of pages with content/resources) to display relevant information. 3. **Co-ordination with content authors.** Interested authors for the Wiki identified through the [content contribution process](https://hackmd.io/@scibeh/rJ1UGrCcw#Content-contribution) will be assigned to specific pages in their modules. They will be invited to the dedicate HackMD team space to produce the relevant Wiki pages. Task 1-3 have a deadline of 4 January 2021, but will continue in an iterative fashion beyond this date. 4. **Use case design.** Development for different types of users to quickly access the most relevant knowledg (e.g., policy-makers need a more concise summary than researchers looking to build on evidence). 5. **Link to ongoing discussions.** How to integrate with Twitter and Reddit to capture ongoing vaccine-related discussions. ## Table of Contributors and Roles _To be updated as project proceeds as new contributors become available. Inclusion as a named contributor on project components will be dependent on workload taken on for that component._ <iframe src="https://coda.io/embed/weeCIUxKAL/_sudo_" width=900 height=500 style="max-width: 100%;" allow="fullscreen"></iframe> ## Project timeline <iframe src="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRhcGAtCsVeO4jpBm6dGk__3Za75Lm_AGfqNblnzWqlFaZNmqdyR_VMRVj9L0lpUA/pubhtml?gid=711771806&amp;single=true&amp;widget=true&amp;headers=false" width=900 height=500></iframe>
