Se muestra de forma generar el proceso de instalación del software de PostgreSQL y PostGIS de forma local en el sistema operativo de Windows.

Todas las herramientas son software libre y de código abierto.

Gran parte de los servicios geográficos Web de Colombia, en las diferentes entidades oficiales del país se publican a través del servidor de mapas de ArcGIS Server. A pesar que estos servicios no son considerados estándares abiertos, definidido por la OGC es posible acceder a ellos con el software de QGIS Desktop. Básicamente estos servicios son ArcGIS Mapserver, considerados como servicios de imágen o de mapas y ArcGIS Feature Server considerados como servicios de entidades.
