**How does the Mahila Panchayat NGO work for women?**

Women in our society face various problems and suffer from abusive activities. To reach out to vulnerable women and provide them support, the Delhi Commission for Women runs various programmes that are women-centric and innovative. The [Mahila Panchayat program](https://sakshingo.org/portfolio/mahila-panchayat/) is such an initiative where women are members and perform required activities.

There is one Panchayat coordinator and at least two community workers who are trained to handle cases and provide counselling to women in distress.

In each Mahila Panchayat, a group of women from marginalised communities are selected who lead the activities in their respective area.

Role of Mahila Panchayat Coordinator-
Stop violence against women by generating awareness
Provide women with legal counselling and aid where it is require
Follow up and process documentation of all cases.
Ensure maximum outreach at the grassroots level
one community meeting once a week.

Extend maximum possible support to victims of violence and injustice
Panchayat Meeting, community meetings and legal awareness camps.

Sakshi NGO support the Mahila Panchayat drive across Delhi NCR and provides all cooperation for the evaluation during the tenure of the program from beginning to completion.
