# Janitor access key
## Goals
1. Make it easier for Janitors to access areas that requires cleaning, without giving them permanent access through ID changes/upgrades.
2. Help Janitors stay efficient and comparable to a Janiborg without someone constantly manning every entrance
3. Give traitorous Janitors more openings to entering departments with a good excuse to be there.
## Non-goals
1. Be an entire replacement to the ID card
2. Be a way to get All-Access without a golden ID card
## Idea
The Custodial closet will spawn with an access key, similar to the pimpin' ride key. Hitting a door on it will open that door, but only if the head of staff grants access to their department.
Only one of these keys should exist, but perhaps there could have a way to replace it in case of destruction? (Or perhaps a traitor destroy objective)
### Balancing
The access key will hold access to an entire department (including the head of staff's office (not including hop which is under Command)), this means the heads of staff should only grant the access when they need to, while giving Janitors an opening for some nefarious stuff.
They will only have access to one department at a time, another head of staff granting access will automatically remove their old.
Because you have to use the key on the door to open it, people will see you physically hitting the door with the key, and will know how you managed to open it.
Outside of that, there can have a cooldown on how long the key will keep access for, however that might be reaching.
### Granting/Revoking access
Head of Staff should be able to grant/revoke the access from the Communications console/tablet app (the section that lets you change the status board messages)
Each head of staff only gives access to their departments. Captain would be Command access, not all (so bridge and such).
## Alternatives
1. Janitors could be given Silver/upgraded IDs that can hold more access as they generally need more expansive access in a round than other crewmembers.
2. Allow ID cards to hold at least 1 access of each department (however that would be a change to the entire ID system)
3. Do nothing, Janitors are already a pretty cool job!
## In-game examples of how it should be used
- Head of Personnel wants the Kitchen cleaned, they give the Janitor access to the Kitchen, which they can now enter while warning the Chefs that they have HoP authorization to be there. Now, Chefs can't use "defending the workplace" as an excuse to beat them up.
- The Geneticists discover HARS, the Research Director lets the Janitor in to clean the gibs, the Janitor sneaks a Hulk mutator for future use without anyone noticing.
- The CMO gives Janitors access to Medbay, the Janitor uses it to enter the CMO office and kidnaps Runtime for their Traitor objective.
