CTCFT Planning 2022-06-20
Theme: Global
Ideas:
From Jane:
regarding the "Global" theme, I can't remember what ideas we discussed that brought that up
I do remember some of the stuff I've been working on around transcription support for meetings / establishing better connections with various sub communities globally, but I don't think those have progressed far enough to have a talk dedicated to them
and by working on i mostly mean advocating for
so its really on when the foundation gets around to focusing on those, and right now they've got their hands full with the grant program, cloud compute program, and rustconf
From Niko:
regarding the "Global" theme, I can't remember what ideas we discussed that brought that up
for me, it was just that I often hear people talk about the need to be more global in mindset, but I think it's not always obvious what the shortcomings are, or how to best address them
simple example, we rotate the timezone for CTCFT, but I don't feel we've had any success in attracting folks from asia
Thoughts
- Global communities
- What would we want to hear?
- What are exciting things happening in other communities that may not be widely known amongst Rustaceans?
- Where is there oppertunity?
- People to reach out to
- What can we do to ease participation in the Rust organization
- Struggles with language/timezone differences
- Struggles with English-focused meetings
- (Jane) Transcription/Translation functionality
- What can we do to make Rust as a product more accessible to people around the globe
- (Jane) Manish? - Compiler error message translations
Future meetup?
- What are the least-represented areas?
- Issues in the ecosystem
- When there is a political stance (aka Ukranian War), it could be portrayed as a western view
- How can community members talk about issues that they experience?
Next Steps
- Find communities of interest
- Could be meetups for locations
- Write a short message that gauges interest
- Look for suggestions
- Aim for 3 speakers tops
- Email all
- Ask for recommendations on topics to discuss
