# **build a coqui**

BUILD A COQUI workshop with Xose Quiroga
Xose Quiroga from IMVEC.tech (@Barcelona) joined by Andrew Lin (@c-lab) presents BUILD A COQUI workshop to launch LAB KILL LAB’s WATERIA work station on December 14, 2020.

The Coqui is a small circuit that allows to measure the conductivity of liquids developed by the Publiclab community. Its main characteristic is that instead of obtaining a numerical value, the Coqui emits a sound depending on the conductivity of the liquid we are examining, the sound being lower if the liquid is not very conductive and higher if the liquid is more conductive.
The sound generated by the Coqui can be subsequently recorded,analyzed, stored and used as a musical instrument.In this workshop the participants will learn how to build a Coqui conductivity sensor. The activity does not require prior knowledge of electronics and is aimed at people from 9 years of age.At the end of the activity each participant will take home the Coqui
sensor that they have built.

Duration: 2 hours (1/2 introduction to Citizen Science and 1&1/2 of workshop)

- Is the Coralline Algae in Taoyuan producing a sound that can be monitored/heard/recorded ? Our field sessions are happening at the most inappropriate season : the wind from the North-East and the waves are very intense at this period of the year. But can the (probably ultrasonic) acoustic activity of the Algal Reef be observed in tidal pools ?
- What can be heard around this algal reef ? What kind of listening experience human ones can have in its surroundings ?
