It differs with most other tools in that it is heavily inspired by functional programming. Those inspirations being: immutable, side effectless, and correct. It delivers on the promise of "if it works on my machine, it will work on yours". Without shipping your actual machine. 😉 ## Project theme (from a fixed list) Operating Systems (though many others could fit) ## Project website https://nixos.org ## Source code https://github.com/nixos ## Social media links [twitter.com/nixos_org/](http://twitter.com/nixos_org/) https://chaos.social/@nixos_org https://matrix.to/#/#community:nixos.org https://youtube.com/@NixOS-Foundation ## Why do you want to be at FOSDEM? Nix and NixOS are community open source projects, which, by nature of being a Linux distribution, are intertwined with many upstreams and other open source projects. Many of our contributors are contributors to other open source projects and we believe that a stand could be a beacon to further our relations with the whole FLOSS ecosystem. Last year's Nix devroom witnessed a lot of interest and curiosity from the overall FOSDEM community, with as much people waiting outside of the room than seated inside. We would like the opportunity to answer to that more broadly this year through an open stand. Conversely, we want to spread knowledge about Nix, both to show newcomers an innovative approach to config management and to give existing users a place to share their experience with the tool and learn from each other. ## Do you want a stand for the entire event or just one day? Entire event ## Primary contact person ThĂ©ophane Hufschmitt ## Primary contact person e-mail theophane.hufschmitt@tweag.io ## What is the relation between the project and the primary contact? Nix maintainer and member of the NixOS Foundation board ## Secondary contact person Ryan Lahfa ## Secondary contact person e-mail ryan@lahfa.xyz ## What is the relation between the project and the secondary contact? NixOS developer and secondary release manager of the upcoming NixOS 23.11 version ## Anything to add? The “Project theme” selection was a tough one since the Nix ecosystem is at the intersection between “Operating Systems” and “Development environments”. We arbitrarily picked one, but the other one could be as good if it can help.
